Its a matter of choice...
osx is faster but less compatible. Less likely to get viruses, but not virus free (as many would tell you). Many never have a problem then again I have known plenty of people that have had their system crash/freeze and die on them.
I dont need to tell you the pros and cons of windows, but just for the sake of balance: Its slower, but more compatible. Gets viruses, but there are a multitude of free and very capable programs to help. Again many have problems, many dont....luck of the draw im afraid.
What you do get with apple is very good customer service.....but you pay for this when you buy the item. This is always my bone of contention with apple stuff, the price.....you pay a fortune, often for a weaker system, that said osx is naturally faster so doesnt need the same system......this is why its very hard to compare the two.
How much you looking to spend? basic macbooks for around £500- £600 are the same essentially as a £300-£400 windows laptop....but again this doesnt tell the whole story, osx will probs run faster on this system than windows does on the equivalent.
That said what is personal use? internet browsing? making documents? gaming? all are simple basic tasks on windows....they are not quite so simple on macs....not saying they are impossible, but you will encounter compatibility issues.
Plus check out the new ultrabook ranges from asus and samsung, if you want good looking tech look no further!
