Hey guys, got my self a new 50" tv and am of the impression that 1080p will make quite the visual difference over 1080i so I'm looking to use a hdmi cable as they made it so the xbox can't do 1080p over component. Problem is, I can't find a converter. Am I right to say it's possible and is anyone actually doing it at the moment?

It can do 1080p over component! It's probably your TV that won't support it.

Also component (analogue signal) -> HDMI (digital) whilst they do exist run into the hundreds of pounds :p

Try the official VGA cable. Also what brand is your TV?

I'm aware that component can do it but there is stupid protetion on it. DVD's for example will not run at 1080p without a hdmi cable and run at 576(?)i i believe, something like that and games run at 1080i. All new tv's are made to do this as far as I know. I have a pioneer 42" plasma down stairs which won't do it and and a brand new panasonic 50" plasma that also won't acording to the spec sheet. Yet to try it in person.

Don't think my new tv has vga, the old one does but thats no use as won't be connecting the xbox to it any more.

How much do you think the net cost would be? Didn't even know there were "s" consoles till I looked earlier today. Haven't really stayed in touch with consoles, only really use it for fifa now.

I suppose the panny you've got doesn't have a VGA port like the one I've got?

I think the only thing you can do is get your self an upgrade mate, least you'll be able to have some sort of warranty if it ever red rings.

Looks that way, hoping I can pick up a second hand one in decent nick for bellow £65, not sure how lucky I will be with that however. Don't think they put vga on tv's any more really, it's all about hdmi now. Makes sense I guess.

I wouldnt worry about trying to run at 1080P, next to no games run at that resolution(many are barely 720P) and DVDs certainly dont?

There's been a few threads on this recently. The Xbox can output 1080p via component buy many TVs (mine included) will only go up to 720p unless you are using HDMI.

That's strange. When I had my premium I was using Component at 1080p and it worked fine on games or Dvds.

The point is that the image being sent is not rendered at 1080p so u will gain no resolution, the image is stretched to fit the screen. So it's pointless worrying about sending a 1080p signal to your tv unless u have a ps3 which does have a 1080p dashboard or play blu ray movies.

Every decent TV will still have VGA, I know the high end panasonics all still do.

There is meant to be quite a difference between 1080p and 1080i once stretched onto a 50inch screen. On the wii the 1080i is very poor in comparison.

Nope just checked the 60" VT30, they don't any more. VGA was on last years models.

Off topic but out of interest have you got the GT30 by any chance, and if so does the wii look that bad?
