Does anyone here own an A6 of the 2005-2011 model years (more specifically 2008 onwards)? Which engine do you have, and does it suit the weight/size of the car? I'm trying to weigh up if any of the smaller engines are actually worth looking into.

What did the facelift bring in (other than the headlights/tail lights change)? I've done some googling, but I'll admit defeat, and can't find anything conclusive.

Cheers guys.

EDIT: Also, with regards to VAG-COM, I assume any (rosstech branded cable, not cheap copy) running CAN is fine? Anyone know anything of VCDS as an alternative?

Is this being weighed up against an E60/F10 or have you really decided an Audi is what you want?

It's a sale being made by a family member, at a price that I might not be able to pass up (2008 for under £7k), assuming it doesn't feel too underpowered.

Plan is to run it until the new year (latest of March) and then move back to a newer BMW once I've got the money (1-year savings account can't be withdrawn until March without penalty/loss of interest).

The 330d is costing more and more (£200 this week on bits), and I need shot of it before the year is out.

I have driven a 2L TDI A6 which I think was a 2009 model, it was OK I was only frustrated when doing overtakes on a A road. On the motorway it was fine it would happily cruise at 95 even 5 up. I would personally go for the 3L TDI the best engine for the A6 in my opinon.

VCDS is the new name for VAG-COM and the CAN cable will work on the A6.

I had the 3.2L quattro version - I always felt it was a great motorway cruise but nothing that would set your pants on fire when you opened it up.

Under 7k? Sounds very cheap. Just get a decent remap and it'll be close to your 330d in terms of power. Those engines are very good once remapped

is it a diesel? I went and had a look at these when i was looking for a new car, the salesman started the engine of the 2.7tdi i think and it sounded horrendous for a premium brand, the BMW diesel engine is much quieter. Apart from that, i quite like them, really nice interiors imo. Well worth £7k for an 08 plate!

You never had him down as the type to accept a top brand premium exec saloon for a good price? Sometimes you have you just past your boyhood dreams and get practical.

Read the thread up to that point.

When Fox posted, there was no info about it being a good deal etc, just a generic info thread.

Everyone knows that the A6 is not as good a car as the 5 series or the E class. Just the way it is.

As soon as you throw the bargain element in then you can have a different opinion but at that point in the thread that info wasn't there.

Have some rolleyes:

Paradigm, I remember talking to you about your next car when we had that lunch, you were considering the E90/92 320d IIRC. 2.0TDI (without remap) aside, I can't see how the A6 would disappoint you in comparison. At that price it is certainly a nice enough place to be and if it has the quattro system you might make it up your road this winter too :D

No, its a 2.0T, and unfortunately not a Quattro.

Bit of a compromise on what I'd prefer, but the 2.0T FSI seems to return decent MPG.

At that price and for that length of time, you're onto a winner there really!

Shame about the lack of quattro though :(

FWD will still get up the Alps better than the 330d ever could, didn't once have a problem with the LCR in the snow :)
