Hey all,

I had a search of the forum and nothing came up so thought I'd ask. I've always wanted one of those globe drinks cabinets - the sort that you open up and keep your bottles in.

This sort of thing...

Does anyone know anything about them? Any advice on what to buy or avoid? I've seen one for £65 locally which I'm going to have a gander at today but to be honest, don't know what to look for!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

The only people that can get away with something like that are students and people from the 19th century.

Do you wear a smoking jacket and drink brandy?

Ha! - Co-incidence! I've been looking for one of these for the last couple of months as well.

From what I've seen there are two types.... the ones that go for many hundereds/thousands.... and are fully painted with solid wood, good hinges etc...

Then there are ones that you can pick up 2nd hand for £40+.... these tend to have printed designs, not as solid build with wood etc.... Try looking for 'pick-up only' on ebay...

I'm waiting for one to come-up near me for a decent price... (the cheap version)..

Just for a bit of fun really...... I'll have some decanters with various bourbon, malt etc in there... and pour myself a stiff one when coming in from a hard day.

:-D

The quality won't be very good for £65. It will probably fall apart after a year or so.

Thanks for the reply - it's currently in a furniture/charity shop which tends not to price things realistically. It's not new by any means. I couldn't tell if it was an original Zoffoli or a good replica but from the window it looked in reasonable condition - just need to got in and see if there is a makers mark or if it's made of cheapness.

Cheers for the reply man - that's what I've gathered so far too. I shall let you know what I discover when I've had a proper look at it. There are loads on the bay but I'm not driving 100 miles to pick one up!

If it turns out to be proper trash I'll try and get the price down and work on a pc case mod instead.

I understand all the comments about them being dated and tacky - not for everyone I guess and I suppose it's down to individual taste.

For my next purchase:

You'll get some tadger that attempts to spin the globe sending all your drink tumbling inside if you get one...

I'd rather have a 60's drinks cabinet than one of these.

Can you post a pic Phil675? I Googled but lots of different styles came back. (I'm aware that you post most likely wasn't entirely positive :p )

Just out of interest, what sort of drinks cabinets do you all have? Or is it a case of stick in the kitchen cupboard?
