Attached it to my camera and the lens just fell apart on me :( gutted loved that lens, I know they have a poor rep but I've never man handled it before. I take good care of my kit.

Brought it off Kerso, probably over 12 months old now. Would I be best off just buying a new one?

Will upload some pics soon.

Poor rep? I've had 3 over the past decade and all 3 have been perfect man!

What did you use to attach it, a Vice? Clamp?

ARE YOU CLAMPS??!

Oh well! Now's your chance to upgrade to one of these:

OUCH... :(

For all the price of one, you might aswell buy a new one(?). The 50mm prime is great! It was one of the first ones I started playing around with, and I still love it! Mind you, half the reason for that is that my partner's always got the Tamron 17-50 on his camera, and I find the 50mm more exciting than the kit lens... :p

If you google it, there are at least two places doing offers on new nifty fifty lenses at the moment. My mate takes great joy in sending me links for them even though he knows I've got one in the cupboard :D

If it's just the front element that has come out pop it back in, should be fine. It's fairly common with 'em.

Yeah was hoping to mate, but a couple of the plastic lugs/clips have broke :(

You referring to the recent HUKD offer?

Awful lenses? you sir are mistaken.

Good IQ for the price. Awful build quality. I can take plastics but if they fall apart that's too bad. Bokeh is crud, sharpness is reasonable.

In comparison to the Sigma and Canon 1.4's they are awful lenses. Great as recommendations for cheap lenses but as primes go they're pretty poor.

The 50 1.4 Canon isn't that much more expensive especially when you consider you may well end up buying multiple copies of the 1.8. Just get the 1.4 and a Mack warranty and be done with it.

If it's Bokeh and sharpness you want from a 50 then there's only one option here, any guesses what that is?

:p

Ive had two and the've both fell apart. Awful lenses. Don't even like the performance of them anyway.

Buy the 1.4 canon or sigma.

^ This.

And yes, they are awful.

Horrible build, poor focus, cheaply made, not actually that good as everyone makes out, poor IQ and bokeh, save your money...

They do have excellent IQ, I've had 3 as mentioned over the last 10 years and neither have ever missed a focus point. Yes it's noisy AF and it's slower AF than a USM/HSM lens but it does indeed work and it's very sharp above f/2.
