Interiors look the same to me except for those 2 extra guages. The alloys are nicer though on the ST170.

Better seats, and the colours are nicer. Plus you get more options as standard so you dont have to be anal while looking for one.

Tbh though, i think the OP's missus needs to be told to buy a proper focus...

As has been said, the real world fuel economy of the 2.0 is supposed to be pretty poor, very poor considering it's only 130bhp. If this doesn't bother you though, go for it.

My 2.0 is averaging high 30s driven carefully (that's manually calculated and on A/B roads) and has been faultless. IIRC the performance figures are also slightly misleading, as the 2.0 requires 3rd for 60, the 1.8 doesn't.

Hoping the OP doesnt mind me asking a related question. Im probably after a MK2.5 Focus (08/58 - hopefully a Titanium) and was going to get a 1.8L as it seemed to fit nicely between performance/economy/insurance for me - Im not that into cars so wondering should I also be looking at 2L?

Just need an A to B car that is nice to drive, nice inside but isnt particular expensive to run/insure...

Hmm may have to test this tomorrow, I'm sure my 1.8 runs out of rev's at about 50 - 55 in 2nd.

When doing a test like that does it matter if you don't change up from 1st to 2nd on the limit? I might have a go later.

Not sure if serious. :confused:

If you just want to test max speed in a given gear at the red line then no, where you shift from the previous gear is irrelevant.

If you want to test the fastest time from 0 to the redline in a given gear then yes, it will matter.

Well I don't go over 4,500rpm often but can be fun every now and then. Find it a bit dodgy to do so in 1st and the noise isn't particularly pleasing
