So i'm looking for a new keyboard... Being a gamer and having used the "Logitech Deluxe Keyboard" which is worth about £3 office keyboard for the last 6-7 years i think its time for an upgrade.

I'm looking for a keyboard for my needs, i love just about any kind of game especially MMORPGs but dont want it purely for MMO purposes. Must be comfortable, Nice to look at, Cool features are a bonus and it must be functional and durable.

Cost isnt much of a problem as i dont think ill be wanting to upgrade for another 5-10 years lol.

So far i'v been looking into the logitech G19 which looks decentish and from what iv read is a top knotch keyboard. Also been looking at the Cyborg V7.

Any help on the subject will be apreciated :)

Cyborg, Microsoft SideWinder, logitech g series - they're all good. Personally I've always used logitech g15.
They all have pretty much same features and quality imo.

There's not really much you can do with a keyboard to make it better for gaming without going for a mechanical one. I mean, sure, those two might look nice but they'll use more or less exactly the same keys as the one you have now.

Think i'll go with the G19, screen might come in handy and the reviews seem solid.

Is there any new high-end gaming keyboards due for release soon before i take the plunge?

Also does the G19 have mic/headset jacks on it?

Gaming keyboards are snake oil. Same with gaming mice. And "gaming" branded things in general. As Permabanned said, there's not a lot you can do with keyboards except go mechanical.

There's options of backlighting and LCD screens. But how important are they really? Answer, they're not.

For gaming all you need is something that allows you to press multiple keys at once so keystrokes aren't dropped and negatively influence your game. So you want a keyboard that has NKRO. PS/2 interface keyboards can achieve full NKRO so long as the keyboard is NKRO. USB keyboards can manage 2KRO, 4KRO or 6KRO. The maximum the USB interface allows is 6KRO unless, in the case of Microsofts X4 keyboard they've got some technology in it that beats the 6KRO limit of the USB interface.

So if you're a gamer and take gaming seriously, the X4 would be what I would recommend. If you want to go mechanical, depending on what you do dictates what switch type you use. Black switches primarily for gaming. Brown switches for a middle ground between gaming and typing. And blues primarily for typing. At least, that's what people say. However I've never had a problem gaming with blue switches. But then I don't play games where mashing the keys and having to depress and release keys to clear the actuation point is a problem.

Indeed. In fact, i doubt there's a non-mechanical keyboard that has much on this:

Because of this (bye bye flex :D):

Which isn't even something i've heard mentioned on supposed 'gaming' keyboards.

The only keyboard i've used that improved my gaming to any noticeable degree is the very cheap logitech ultrax:

I wouldn't want to game on anything that has normal keys now.

I got one of these last year just to try more than anything else...

*** No hotlinking, particularly to those of competitors ***

And I don't like gaming without it now - I find it sooo easy!

plus having access to so many buttons under the thumb, a scroll wheel on both hands and the overall layout really helps... and it is very comfortable...

Nice, but you can get mechanical keyboards for far less than that iirc. About £30?

Not strictly true. You really do need a gaming mouse if you want to play shooters (well).

Not really - there's no definition of what makes something 'for gaming'. If it has a funky red plastic cover then it probably is. But just because it's not called a 'gaming mouse' doesn't mean it isn't as good/better. In fact, i find it annoying that the two sections are separate, i'm just looking for a wired mouse, why are they in two different bits?

My Razer Tarrantula was the best keyboard I've used, but it didn't last that long..

It had awesome anti-ghosting

Now I've got a Sidewinder X6, it doesn't have anti ghosting, so you can't press for example..

A,W,4 and Space at the same time, you subconsciously overcome this, but I find it a pain that a 'gaming' keyboard doesn't have anti-ghosting

Apparently it has linear switches? Might not be your best choice with regards to a first mechanical, kind of negates the advantage of knowing exactly when it actuates.
