I actually laughed when I saw the size of the engine in the engine bay!
Yes turbo breather, swirl flaps, give the egr a clean, check the vacuum hoses aswell for perishing.
Also take a look at the egr pressure converter and the turbo pressure converter, they have small filters that get clogged. Best to replace them but if you can't afford to then clean the filters out.
On the back of the manifold there is a little turbo/egr/solenoid switch thing, worth cleaning that out with Maf spray as they sometimes get clogged.
Clean the MAF with the spray that usually makes a good difference.
Reset the throttle aswell, ignition one 1o seconds, ignition off 10 seconds, then start the car.
Take a look at your font rear control arm bushes, they're pretty ****.

Read CBRS post and assumed it was a 320d that was purchased, most of the info above is for the 320d and 330d.
CBR there are no swirl flaps on the petrols.
