I dont see the point in this now.

Taking on the risk of a BMW is worth it when you are rewarded with a fantastic car with a creamy smooth Six, a great range of standard equipment, etc etc.

It just isn't worth the faff when you get a bottom of the range 318 with twirly knob aircon.

Buy a Mondeo.

actually was looking at mazda 323's, Golfs,Boras and Toyotas as well

not looked at Mondeos at all....

Awesome! I wonder if the premium diesel keeps them going. They were never changed in my ownership, and BMW said that they were never changed under warranty before I had it.

To balance that out, 140k i've had 3 or 4 go now. Don't use premium diesel though

Hello all

Im sure a lot of you already know this info, but for those that dont. . . .

When servicing make sure you install or get installed the new type turbo breather filter, the old type is like loo roll and can clog really easly, that really wont help your turbo

the new type is like a vortex vent

Good idea to get your swirl flaps removed also, before 1 decides to come off on its own :eek:

I actually laughed when I saw the size of the engine in the engine bay!

Yes turbo breather, swirl flaps, give the egr a clean, check the vacuum hoses aswell for perishing.

Also take a look at the egr pressure converter and the turbo pressure converter, they have small filters that get clogged. Best to replace them but if you can't afford to then clean the filters out.

On the back of the manifold there is a little turbo/egr/solenoid switch thing, worth cleaning that out with Maf spray as they sometimes get clogged.

Clean the MAF with the spray that usually makes a good difference.

Reset the throttle aswell, ignition one 1o seconds, ignition off 10 seconds, then start the car.

Take a look at your font rear control arm bushes, they're pretty ****.

Edit -

Read CBRS post and assumed it was a 320d that was purchased, most of the info above is for the 320d and 330d.

CBR there are no swirl flaps on the petrols.

I always use it, plus it gets a shot of redex cleaner every 6 months.

I've had an E46 330i Sport, 2003, 90,000 miles now, for the last 2 or 3 years.

Only things that have needed doing (apart from the normal BMW services, tyres etc), are:

Washer pump gone (£5 from ebay)
Door retaining hinge thing broke
Both front window relays needed changing
Radiator needed changing

I don't think that is particular bad for a 90k mile car to be honest.
