I play at 1680 and I have a first gen i5 with 4gb ram and a 4850.

I usually go for amd but I really want the best value card at the moment!

Only used for gaming and office applications.

Thanks

bang for the buck i would say ati 6950 and for nvidia gtx560ti possible gtx570 too but most definitely the ati 6950 2gb. me personally im nvidia fan so i would get a 560ti 2gb by gainward or a 570 but if i couldn't get them i would go for the 6950 i know people who got them, i've read reviews all say good thing about it. on a purely cost effective point of view again 6950 because if you can get a hold of the rev1 version you can unlock it to a 6970 safely as it has the dual bio switch on it.

do you really need the extra GB on cards or is 1GB enough. I'm also looking to buy a card 100-150 mark.... Upgrade from my 4870 512MB

1GB is enough, but 2GB will give you the extra performance at high resolutions, such as 1080p monitors. There are also various games which are graphics memory intensive such as GTAIV which will benefit from the extra memory too.
