Hello all!

I've recently finished the first draft of a short story and I was wondering if anyone here fancies giving it the once-over. It'll be published on the Amazon Kindle once it's ready and I have worked out a decent cover.

Subject-wise, it's a vampire story. Vampires are much-loved in fiction, but also over-done in my opinion and I want to forget the garlic, the coffins, immortality and crucifixes in favour of something a bit more 'realistic' and 'cool'. I have a huge amount of notes concerning my re-creation of their physiognomy, belief system, honour system and and so on, but there's not enough room to explain it all in a short story (or here - unless people are interested). It'd be interesting to read the details of how you guys would create vampires if any of you have had ideas of your own - you know, what powers you'd give them and so on.

Anyway, it is 11,000 words long (roughly an hour's leisurely read), so it's more of a action-packed novella, but there's no obligation to read all of it, of course. So, if anyone's interested post here and I'll e-mail it.

Also, you don't have to know anything about grammar or spelling - I'm more interesting if people think it works as a story and whether it's any good or not.

Thanks!

Matt

I'll have a read mate, trust me it.

As long as they aren't glittery gay fag vampires like in twilight and more traditional design. If it's twilight esque I'll pass :p

I'll be more than happy to have a look, reading is my primary leisure pursuit so any excuse to do more of it. I'll give you a honest opinion at the very least, not sure about my grammatical skills however, but I'll give it a shot.

Email in trust.

Yup, Happy to have a read, email in trust.

Might not be able to get round to reading it until Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday but should be able to give some feed back pretty quick, will get my brother to read it as well (He enjoys reading more then me, well reads much more fiction then me)

Why not, I tend to quite like vampires (except the Twilight-esque sacharine sweet ones).

I'm fairly flexible on the whole vampire mythos myself, so I have no problems if you've tweaked it a bit (with such an ubiqitous monster class I see no reason that vampires couldn't be as utterly varied as the humanity they were borne of, even within one universe)!

Wouldn't mind a glimpse into your ideas for revamped mythos, belief/honour system et al either; I've considered writing a book of my own more than a few times. Whilst vampires usually weren't the main focus, one of the planned side characters in one of my main scenario settings was (sort of a mid-story reveal kinda jobby) and it'd be interesting to see where you've taken them for your background setting (not to try and steal ideas haha).

Should have a chance to read it Tuesday.

So like Twilight? :p

You can eliminate some of the traditional cliches of vampires (modernise them if you will; justifiable if they're existing in a modern setting as they'd have to try and blend in) without turning them into Twilight Abominations :p
