ok so i have a laptop for sale on gumtree, and some scammer hits me with this :D

"Thanks for getting back to me..I
would have loved to handle it myself
but unfortunately I’m presently
in USA with my boss on a contract
pursuit.
As i think the safest way to make
payment online is through PayPal Or
Bank Transfer…I want to send it
to my Business Partner who is on a
training course in West Africa,i
want to send it as a Birthday Gift,
I will like you to get back to me
with the total cost of the item and
postage via any courier service
nearby and also info of the payment
you want to be made Hope to read from you soonest"

i then reply with an inflated price of £380... (laptop listed for £180)

he agrees so i give him the sort and acc of my old bank which has no cards attached and no overdraft and just 2p in.....

-------------------

now i know with paypal they use a stolen account pay for goods, the money clears and then 3 or 4 days later it gets 'reversed' and you end up with no money and no product. My understanding is if if a bank transfer is complete then there is no reversal and the banks cover any lost money that could have happened if an account has been hacked

They sed you a fake paypla payment e-mail, go to click reply the fake address comes up.

Anyone that doesn't check there account and sends good needs to be shot!

My first instinct when dealing with a scammer is to distance myself as much as possible and probably contact whoever the website suggests I do but if you can beat them at their own game then well done.

Good Luck anyway

Didn't p-p-powerbook episode end not so well? Something about the guy going missing or not updating anymore?

Yeah, it says the author of that article sent Jeff a mail asking him permission to host the story on his site, and after an initial response he was never heard from again. Could have just changed his online alias though.
