Amy Winehouse found dead

"There's a hole in daddy's arm, where all the money goes..."

Not surprised it happened to be honest. I actually thought she'd die younger. Addiction is a life long battle. I suppose the problem with fame is you're surrounded by yes men.

Well my dad had a huge alcohol addiction. He was powerless over it for many years. He was a smart man in a good job. He could have been your boss. By hook or by crook he managed to beat it. He hasnt had a drink for 40 years. However it could easily have killed him.

He is the same man, a good man. However if it had killed him he would have been considered "a waste of space" by this thread. Im not sure what he would be called because he has beaten his demon. The point is its very easy to judge.

Exactly...You make a very good point...The immaturity in this thread amazes me

People judge others to quickly...Addiction can strike anyone anytime..a lot of these post's people make reek of no real life experience by the people who write them

Congrats to your dad. I'm nearly 4 years into my own abstention from alcohol. Of all the drugs I've done and had my battles with, it was alcohol that reduced me to the lowest point of my life.

Thanks. You have made some great points in this thread.

Im not saying she deserves sympathy (although i DO feel sympathy, thats a personal thing) but the lack of understanding is a shame.

Anyone who is glad she's dead is quite frankly an idiot, you should never wish death on anyone.

Not having sympathy or not caring that she's dead is fine, but to be happy about it is just sad.

Well done to your Dad for beating his alcoholism. As fickle/hypocritical as it might seem, I have a different opinion of alcoholics as I do of class A addicts.
I can understand how a simple drink each night can develop into something more. It's legal, it's insanely easy to get hold of, there's nothing to stop you, it might not seem like a problem for years and years...
However, if it's at the stage where you can't carry on with life without smashing a load of class A's into your blood then... **** off. You know what you're doing and you could have put the work in and stopped it.

While I wouldn't say she deserved what happened I have little sympathy for her, and can't say I'm saddened about it at all.

Sucks for her family though :(

Well done to yourself. I feel a bit of a fraud here cos im no stranger to a drink! However i do have a wee bit of understanding about how it all works.

Logically i dont get the criticism of celebs who die like this.

Is this not the very illustration of how people can become powerless over and addiction? When someone who has all the money and fame dies like this? Would anyone really choose this????

For anyone who may be interested, ive recently red Steve Adler (ex Guns n Roses drummer) book about his life and it gives an interesting insight into how you can have it all and blow it.

Ive also read books by Slash, Anthony Kiedis, Ozzy etc etc and it really opens your eyes to the world these people live in. Its easy to say "Its their own fault, dont do it" etc but some of these stories are genuinely from another planet.

Whats the difference to doing that and drinking 2 bottles of vodka a day?

Means there will be no sympathy, only for the family of said addict.
It's a dangerous thing to mess about with, everyone knows the risks.

If I jumped off a cliff every day but was magically caught by someone else's safety net each time, I'd deserve to die the time the net wasn't put up. It's all good though, as I don't jump off cliffs every day.

Whats sad is that a thread about a alcoholic druggy being found dead looks like it could cause more posts on here then 80+ being killed in Norway!
In that thread most people are just paying their respects, in this thread people are saying they're glad she's dead and that's getting a reaction from others. If people did the same in here as they have in the Norway thread it would barely have 2 or 3 pages.

That displays an ignorance that is very sad.

Its the same mentality. the mechanism changes but that doesnt matter. It could be beer, vodka, poker, horses, blackjack, heroin, cocaine, it doesnt matter.

Its the inability to function without doing whatever it is you have become reliant on. You become powerless over it.

While you claim to understand how the "simple drink" develops thats not an issue. We are talking about when it becomes the be all and end all. The same way the next bet may become, or the next hit, or whatever.

Its the same basic problem that means a guy is pumping his last £5 into a fruit machines and Amy Winehouse lies dead in her flat. Its the same addiction.

Maybe better phrased as caused her own death entirely through her own actions?

I was thinkin the same thing!

Yes its sad this person died but she made a choice about how she wanted to live her life.

And as they say - you reap what you sow.
