i have a 550w fatal1ty

i want to know if IT WILL WORK.

strained it may be but

with my system, i will give u a run down,

1 motherboard, 2x2x2x2 4 sticks of memory,, so 1 at 1.5v ea.

2 hard drives sata
1 ssd
8 fans.

overclocked 1100t to 4ghz up from 3.3

cd rom

now, 1 gtx 570 sonic platinum from palit.

here is my question.

i am hovering over the "buy now" button for another sonic platinum

so ill be using 2, with my 550w psu.

will it work? thats all

to be honest your pushing it with 1 GTX570. for two you will need at least a 750W PSU.

*edit*
here are some more recommendations:

1 x Lepa G-Series 900W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £129.98
1 x OCZ Z-Series 850W '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply £99.98
1 x XFX 750W Black Edition Modular Power Supply £99.98 (80+ silver)
1 x Antec TruePower New Modular 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply ** FREE 3D Mark 2011 Advanced ** £84.98
1 x Lepa B-Series 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular Power Supply £72.98

basically, you need an incredibly good quality 750W (XFX, corsair, enermax, seasonic, antec) PSU, or a good 850W one (OCZ)

(obviosuly theres no harm in going for the higher rated versions of the PSU's im suggesting)

also, just as an aside, fans and SSD's use about 1W each, i really wouldnt worry about them

I very much doubt it will work without constant crashing, if at all.

The SLI GTX570 will pull around 500W on load themselves, around 240ish each.

With all the rest of the components added up it's definitely going to go over the 550W.

All in your system is probably pulling around 350-400w from the PSU (Phenoms' arn't exactly well known for their ability to sip power) so adding another ~225w GTX570 is simply not going to happen.

I would either look at a new PSU or just run with a single GTX570 for now.

EDIT: Just seen your latest post. Assuming the PSU has OCP it will most likely not boot up at all or will boot but shut down as soon as you put a heavy "gaming" load on it.

i do have 1 psu sitting around so i could theretically plug that 1 into the 2nd psu and have that sitting next to my desktop lol right? its a 650 w

so, say if i got another 570 i plugged it in, what would happen?

ive just had a look around, and your PSU is made by sirtec (OCZ relabeled it, this is common practice in the PSU world)

when you turn the PC on it would probably be ok, as soon as you go into a game, or anything graphically demanding, there are two possible things that could happen:

1. PSU detects it is drawing too much power and does an emergency shutdown.

or, what is more likely since the PSU isnt the greatest

2. the PSU doesnt detect the over power, or cant react quickly enough to it, and dies. since it is not a great PSU there is a high chance it will kill the motherboard, CPU and graphics cards with the power surge

you may not realise it (hell, i didnt before i came on here), but the PSU is the most important part of the PC

*edit*
what is the make and model of PSU, that is the most important thing we need to know.

here is my favourite demonstration of why brand name is important on PSU's:

omg someone reply?

omg, you waited a whole 9 minutes before bumping the thread.

A second GTX 570 isn't going to work for 2 reasons.

1) your power supply isn't up to it.

2) You don't have an SLI compatible motherboard.

SLI with not work on that motherboard unless one of these SLI hacks you read about work.

sli wont work?

m4a89gtd pro asus

yeah
i could connect the 2nd card using a 2nd psu, that would be perfectly fine, wouldnt it?

we need to know the make/model of the 2nd PSU before you do that.

if you look at my edit you will see that just because a PSU says its 650W it doesnt mean that it will power your PC. heres another one:

that was doing exactly what it was rated for
