So I was thinking about sending a little gift to a friend in America. She loves British Cadbury chocolate but obviously its not too common over there so I was thinking about sending some to her. Unfortunately I looked at postage and a kg or two was about £20 to post. Are there any US sites people have used that sell this sort of stuff so I can buy it in the US and get sent straight to her?

Thanks

I bought a jiffy bag a couple of years ago and filled it with British chocs n sweets for a friend who was studying in Boston and while it cost about as much as the value of the stuff to post it wasnt anywhere near £20?

Maybe postage has gone crazy since then though!

Yikes! Over £1 a chocolate bar!? I knew they would be more expensive but that takes the biscuit... Maybe paying the postage would be a cheaper bet!

So next question, who should I post with bearing in mind I'd prefer they arrived within a week or two, being food?

Chocolate lasts ages, doesn't it? I wouldn't worry about it going off.

They sell cadburys at most US supermarkets now since it was bought by kraft. It tastes different though. They also sell crunchies, aeros, etc in the ethnic food section of my local one lol.

There's also a store called World Market in most cities that sells British food.

The current heat-wave on the East coast would have a terrible effect on chocolate in a jiffy bag wouldn't it?

Can't say I've ever used a jiffy bag for chocolate, but I know it's awfully hot over there right now.

It's hot to the point of having the soles of your feet physically burned if you aren't wearing shoes. I left a few citronella candles outside in the shade and they were completely melted to liquid.

It would arrive as liquid.

Must save on gas bills, if you need to melted chocolate. :)

Why has no one mentioned Amazon or eBay? Both of these sell it and i'm guessing the US Amazon site will have stocks held in the US.

Hotel Chocolat now have a presence over in the States :). www.hotelchocolat.com
The point is I want to send her some Cadbury chocolate as she likes it, but thanks anyway.

Yeah I know "cadbury" sell chocolate over there, unfortunately it tastes like vomit... She hasn't seen any near her before, especially the ones I want to send her. :)

And yep heat may be an issue at the moment, apparently its been over 100 degrees the last couple of weeks!
If you're not prepared to pay the postage then clearly she's not that close a friend :)

Ouch... Or I'm a poor student and would rather pay £20 for a load of chocolate rather than a couple of bars and postage... I also want to be able to eat myself.;)

Thanks for the eBay recommendations, I'll have a look there. :)

Just looked on the US amazon and that looks more like it! Shame I'm not going to be able to stick anything else in the package but there should be a massive sum saved on the postage cost.

Looked at Royal Mail as well but unfortunately I will fall into the 300g-2kg gap they have meaning instead of £5 i'd have to pay £23 for just over 300g so it's just too much.

Thanks for the tip. Think I may wait a week or two and see if the hot weather dies down though...:D
