Hi guys,

Ever since I set up my site I had problems with hosts and domain companies, it has proven to me that you need to be incredibly careful with who you choose and sometimes it's just not worth saving a couple of pounds here and there..

Anyway, I recently renewed my domain name for 2 years with Enom reseller 4sites.com and Alex, the owner, has only renewed my domain for 1 year. I have sent him 7 emails since this happened each with no response, he had no problem emailing me promptly when he was looking for his (inflated) payment.

I paid with paypal, so if I haven't heard from him tomorrow (it's now more than 2 weeks), I'll be starting a paypal dispute and getting my money back as it's just a joke at this stage. Is there anything else I can do/try?

I'm moving to tsohost, so hopefully they're a bit better!

I use 123reg for domains, and vidahost for hosting. I have 1&1 for my personal, but really need to transfer my domains away, but thats proving virtually impossible.

I use 123reg for domain and hosting. They've been fine for my basic needs, they're not the cheapest but they've been pretty reliable and respond quite quickly to my messages.

tsohost here, one small problem (not theirs in the end) which they went above and beyond to help me sort...very happy. Thought they were a little slow sometimes when I was on BT at home, changed to Sky and much, much better!

Generally i've found that paying abit more for a higher quality web hosting/registrar here in the UK with UK premises to be better then going cheap and cheerful.

you really always should use a reputable registrar unless the reseller is yours then I wouldn't touch it what happens if anything was to happen to your the guy who owns the reseller? ie he died?

are the whois details of the domain names yours or his? if they are yours if you open a support ticket ENOM will transfer them back to you.

Namecheap for my registrar.

Never-ever use a web host for your domains, way too much hassle normally. Stick wtih a company that does it as it's primary business.

.....Try to read 123-reg's support articles....
I'm sure you don't want to give your employer a bad rep by spamming forums, or be banned when the mods see your posts, so I'd edit them and either join the forum in a personal capacity, or look elsewhere...perhaps webhostingtalk :p

I use Namecheap for domain registration and been happy with them so far. Nice and cheap, but seem to be more professional than their name sounds!

Using Storm Internet for some of my hosting and again no probs so far and the tech support are quick and helpful.

I do have one site that is on 1and1 still - i haven't tried moving it yet, mainly because i've only heard horrible stories about people trying to do so! :(

Google 'Why not use GoDaddy'. Yeh you could do the same for any, but GoDaddy has such a poor reputation and it is a major name still.

It feels like you need a degree to operate the back end. Then trying to get a domain off them...

Very much like 1&1 then.

Until I moved to Vidahost, I never realised how bad the backend on theirs was! cPanel is much nicer to use!
