Afternoon All,

Friend of mine has asked me about a gaming spend with ~1K budget; the only item not required is a monitor/speakers as he'll be using the TV/Headset. However needs everything else as only has a PS3 at the moment!

Looking for something which will run SWTOR when its out, most other MMO's - and other resource hungry RPG's such as Witcher 2 - he's not an FPS gamer, but looking for something which should perform well over the next couple of years and have some up-gradable options in the future (naybe a 2nd GFX card, more RAM, CPU etc..) so he wouldnt need to fork out for a whole new system again.

I was thinking along the lines of a i5, he hinted at an i7 but with the price difference it will limit some other luxuries like a better GFX card or SSD OS drive, and i am not sure the extra for the i7 is all that worth it?

So what you guys reckon?

There are obviously lots of options for each component, but I feel that's a good starting point. Comes in 14 pence under budget if you get free delivery :D

*realises now he completely forgot about an OS* :D

He's happy to push a bit over budget if it means a better system in a few areas, ie pushing a bit more ram or bigger SSD - I'm just not sure on the current GFX card Market and what's best

Reaper's build is solid, bigger SSD and also has the option of adding a second GTX 560 Ti in the future.

Any good write ups/performance info on the 560 I can browse? Also not heard of that psu make - after having a cheap one blow myself and losing a load of hardware I tend to opt for something more reliable - but been out of the game a while so they might be ok.

performance info on the 560Ti. sadly theres a serious lack of info on the 560Ti in SLI on the internet

the PSU is made by a branch of enermax, but if you are worried about it then the antec will be just as good.

Cheers mate - all looking good, just wondering on whether to opt for 6gb and a 1tb hdd on Reapers build then, otherwise might have a winrar!

Good enough to play Skyrim well do we think? No new tech just around the corner to wait for?

just wondering on whether to opt for 6gb and a 1tb hdd on Reapers build then

Sandybridge is dual-channel so you couldn't get the full benefit of going with 6GB because you would have to have 3 2GB modules or a 4GB and a 2GB which will not operate in dual channel. The next step up from 4GB would be 8GB.

So Slight alteration on Reapers build then:

So slightly over my original budget, be think it'll be good, thoughts?

I would probably go for an 6950 2gb, if your planning on SLI'ing in the future, the 2gb may come in handy as when you sli two cards, your still left with the amount of memory from one, and this may come in handy in a couple of years. Although Im not an expert, so i'd probably confirm this with others.

AMD/ATI = Crossfire
NVidia = SLI
I think OP would only need the extra VRAM if he games at high res, or have a multi monitor setup.
