Edifer R1600T Studio Plus 2.0 Speakers

I bought these for my TV (well they're connected to my sky box) and i can honestly say they are lovely, the sound is crisp, clear and i hear noises that you just dont hear with the tv speakers, the volume level is good too, although they're not excessively loud they do go loud enough to fill a small room, even maybe a medium sized room, the bass also is nice and balanced it doesn't rock the room like a Subwoofer does but they still pack a nice punch, i'm very impressed with them,
but eventually they will be transfered to my PC when i get rid of my z2300's which i never use anymore (unless you count the fact i use the sub as a foot rest)

How do they compare to Z2300s?

volume wise the z2300 are much louder but clarity wise the edifiers are much clearer and balanced the z2300s are obviously very bassy the sub rattles my room even at lower levels whereas with the edifiers the bass is much more understated it still does have a nice little punch

Just thought I'd update to say, having now used these for quite a few hours I'm seeing a bit of a difference - hadn't really thought about breaking in the drivers as theres usually negligible difference to it but the bass seems to have improved somewhat tho its still not handling the low range on one of my benchmark tracks as well as I'd like but theres a noticeable reduction in "colorisation" in low frequency and more presence/substance to it.

I sort of noticed the bass/mid bass sounds smoother/warmer overall after I had played these abit louder than my usual listening volume. The drivers seemed to loosen up abit, as they were quite stiff before (they move slightly more now, even at lower volumes).

Of course it could just be placebo/my ears getting used to the sound but it sounds better to me nonetheless. :o

I'm tempted to get these while they are still on this week only, but need to ask a question - how are they for using at low volumes (ie ~20%)?

good cause of local feild acustics, i have my speakers all 3 knobs at 12oclock, the xonar dg at 80% mixer, pc speakers at 10-20 sounds great in the local, sounds dont go far out of the room.

intrested in how loud/high you used as have seen them on youtube rocking in out like beees, mine are still stiff as. (have a younger brother that has blowen out most of my good speakers). so dont want to ruin these.......

They sound great at any volume level, but I must stress the bass does lack.

I had it at about 50/60% amp and 100% windows volume while I was playing it "loud". Bass was slightly over the middle mark aswell.

Ah, just received the speakers this morning, in what I can only describe as an unfortunate state.
Looks like the box has been kicking around the warehouse for a long time - pretty worn, filthy and battered. The tape on the bottom was partially split when I received it, with the speakers almost falling out (I wondered why the delivery man was carefully supporting it from the bottom!). Shame, because I keep and look after the boxes for stuff like this almost as much as the equipment itself!

Thankfully looks like no physical damage, but also didn't get a UK lead in the box, and it looks like the 2 pin lead is not removeable from the speaker, meaning a 2 pin to 3 pin adapter needs to be used. Can someone confirm this is the case? EDIT: Nevermind, read the last page - looks like this is indeed the case. :/

Anyway sent ocuk a webnote, hopefully this will get sorted quickly.

EDIT: Update - yes they're going to send me the power adapter, so all is well. Hopefully will get a chance to test tomorrow. :)

That's ok, I can deal with weaker bass. Use will be almost exclusively music, and classical at that.

One of my test tracks is Randy Edelman - Elk Hunt (from last of the mohicans) which is fairly classical style and they handled that excellently.

^Fair point, will certainly look neater. Just concerned doing that will affect resale value (probably not).

As I've got a free adapter in the post I'll wait and test with that first, but I'll see if I can pick up a plug while I'm out tomorrow.

Good point Marsman. I went and bought an adapter. It looks a bit naff but I've got that many wires and plugs under my pc desk it not a big deal haha.

Actually, I think these speakers do actually have decent bass.... sort of. It's just that you need to be playing it quite loud to "feel" it and achieve a deeper sound. The bass dial is pretty much useless above 50-60% (IMO), and these don't have big enough woofers to move any serious air at lower volumes, so that's probably why I feel they're lacking in bass when I'm doing some casual listening at lower volumes. At higher volumes with the bass dial on 50-60%, they do have enough punch.

With a bigger/better designed rear port I think the bass would be improved it sounds a lot like the cabinet is stiffling the response when pushed. Also theres quite a bit of "colorisation" around the 100-200Hz area especially as you turn the bass and volume up, tho its not so bad at around 60% on the bass when the speakers have been "broken in". Maybe with some more hours on them they'd be better again - there is a remarked reduction in the low frequency colorisation and increased low range "presence" with around 100+ hours on them.

Bah, so much for me hurrying to get them on TWO - now they're £3 cheaper at £58.99! :(
Oh well.

Would hacking off the plug and fitting another affect the warranty?
Hmm, that could be.

Anyway, got the adapter today so finally have a chance to have a quick listen.
It's only a basic and mainstream setup - xonar essence st to these speakers, and HD595 headphones.
Got a few flute+piano pieces in decent enough quality, and have to say it sounds pretty good so far, if a little muffled and quite distant - like I've got cotton wool in my ears. But that's really minor and hopefully will change over time, so I'll wait and see.
