*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

But it's not a fiver for anyone that buys the standard edition, is it?

You can pre-order now for £27 and I'm sure there will be deals close to £20 before the release therefore making the digital version of the game a vastly overpriced product that people will buy regardless of what is and isn't logical.

Plus the standard edition should register on Origin, right?

I don't see this game being any cheaper upto release, if anything (being EA and the demand) I can see it being more expensive.

Even at a a little over a fiver, it still isn't much money (certainly not compared to the CE anyway!).

I would have thought a retail SE would register on Origin (not 100% sure though).

Just quoting what I read really on the head start thing, quite a few places mention it as well not just the official forums. clicky. Could well be false, not sure :) would be nice if they confirmed it either way.

Apparently not. Doesn't matter which box you have, it will all depend on when you put your code in. No idea where that quote was from though (apart from being on the official forums) and would never be able to dig the link back out, so will wait for confirmation.

Essentially I paid a fiver to get into the headstart asap - not sure if I will be able to when the time comes, but at least I will have the option :)

Well I ordered the boxed copy of mine from an etailer and the headstart code arrived instantly via email :p

Digital version pricing is scandalous though I imagine my retail copy could arrive late and then I don't get to log in on actual release day as presumably I'll need the code from the box

So would it be a good move to pre-order it from Coolshop now and wait till anything else pops up on cheap?

It's only £27 atm and I can't really see it going below £25.

Just wondering whether they're reliable or not.

There is a grace period, so you will still be able to play :)

Wouldn't like to call that one, but can't see it being any cheaper until well after release.

As for Coolshop, I am sure others around here have experience with them...(anyone?)

I've ordered from Cool Shop before & they were fine.

Admittedly it wasn't for a game that was on pre-order, but I've pre-ordered SW:TOR from them & being £13+ cheaper than digital or other places (albeit without early access code) I don't mind.

Plus with the grace period, even if they are slow it doesn't matter :)

Nice find on Cool Shop, for that price I really don't have any issues on slapping down a pre order for the game. After all if the game turns out to be a bit naff £27 is hardly going to hurt.

Order placed.

I just hope they don't change the price once they catch on that the games going to probably cost them that just to stock. :(

Placed an order too and if Quidco tracks, £1.36 cashback which makes it less than £26 in total!

It's pretty much half the price of pre-ordering the standard edition on Origin which makes people who bought from there look a little silly.

Anyone know how fluid the animations and controls are in fighting? Wondering if it's more of a Warcraft feel which is very fluid and extremely well done / easy to control, or whether its' more like Lord of the Rings Online where movement is a bit sluggish, animations are played where you have no control over them (you can't break them mid animation and they root you to the floor).

The more I watch the 3 videos from comic con the more I think to myself that Bioware really don’t have a release date. Well of course they have a date in mind but I truly believe that there is no set date at present. Watching the videos, BW really want to make this a epic game and bring us the best what BW can do and nothing less. They really try get this across to the audience.

It makes perfect sense to do the beta weekends starting in September, get feedback from the thousands of testers and then they can gage where they are actually with the game and then release it when its fit to do so.

I'm waiting for further info, give me a beta weekend, give me some pricing info, and put the game at a reasonable £25 and I'll be back in. But I'm not going to be suckered by hype I'm afraid ;)

Ok, Ok, I caved. £27 minus quidco cashback, close enough to £25 so preordered.

I'm weak on Mondays, especially after a heavy weekend ;)

Nah I think they have a release date in mind and are, unless something goes catastrophically wrong, going to stick to it. They've already mentioned a bunch of stuff that won't be in for launch which means they are on a deadline and don't have to time to implement it... couple that with pressure from EA to get it out and start making money. I wouldn't be surprised if these tester weekends in September are the last leg of the beta, to maybe test things like server capacity and queues etc.

I was hearing on the wire that the game was due for release in Sept as well. I looked at the prices of each edition, all well and good but £150 for CE?

However, that being said, I not long ago paid £130 for the lifetime sub for DC Universe Online. So this paves way for paying monthly on that game. Of course I do also have Star Trek Online (bought for a nice £3 during a Steam Sale :D), but I don't mind putting that game on hold. So I am really inclined to go for SW:TOR. But I might just get the normal edition as I am not too fussed about the extras.

Just want to enjoy the game as best as possible. :)

Have to admit, I only ever played one MMO a few years back (Matrix Online). Never have I played more than one MMO before, let alone more than 2 lol. Let's hope a Lifetime sub for SW:TOR is of a reasonable amount as well :D

Can’t really say there is pressure from EA they are really one company but know what you saying. Agree that September will be for stress testing and server capability. But only after this that they will have a better indication on when the game is ready or not. BW have also said that it will be a restricted launch at first because the demand is going to be so great!

I still say around Thanksgiving or first week Dec.

If they offer lifetime subs and give discounts depending if you got the CE or not after they already released the pre-orders I will not be amused :P

Coolshop quotes 15th September as the release date but I doubt it's accurate.

It would make sense to release it then, though. :)

I doubt it is September, they did meantion open beta weekends in September so my best guess would be October/November,having just finished my beta testing of ToR I was surprised they are going for release date this year,a lot of things still need fixing/completed in ToR.
