How many Kayakers are there on here?

Amongst other things I'm a whitewater kayak coach, although living in Devon I don't get on the good stuff nearly as much as I'd like to.

Anyone fancy meeting up at Tees Barrage some day(would need notice to get day off work)/evening/weekend?

I'll be rubbish, but give me a bit of time to get back in the swing of things and get used to my RPM again and I might take you up on that :)

This is when I was good: - Llangollen town falls.

I did a kayak trip with the Scouts may 2009 down the Wye river, was about 30 miles in 3 days i think.
How did you guys get more into the hobby? just find a local centre or something?

Joining a local club is the best way to get into the sport. If it's anything like the one I joined they'll be happy to get you involved. Ones that are registered with the British Canoe Union can be found here:

You can also find various centres that run commercial courses as either an introduction or to develop your skills. But personally I like the added social bonuses of joining a club.

I'll be doing a similar trip at the end of the month on the Wye, should be fun if the weather is good. But just incase it's not I'm using it as an excuse to buy a new cag!

Ah the number of people that swim down there on the Dee tour :D
I've never swum those falls, thankfully - but I'm mostly pleased to have avoided the over-enthusiastic safety volunteers (I think) from "rescuing" me.

I'm gonna go to Sleningford tomorrow, I think. Not that there'll be any water in the Ure.

Well, I went. There wasn't much water. Damn farmers stealing it all for irrigation :|

Bit far :)

Hey matt, do you know what's going on with the barrage? I only found out it had closed and is still closed on sat... I think it should be open again in a few weeks...may have to have a look see at the weekend - Think it's just snagging issues to go now, maybe an old leak to properly fix.

Can't wait, should be amazing.

No idea about the barrage Jono, sorry.

I'm a bit out of touch with the paddling scene of late, and to be fair I never seemed to get along with any of the people who worked at the barrage. Maybe I just didnt wear the right stuff or paddle the right boat to be cool :(

Ah rollocks to being/looking cool. There are some right nobbers that go there. I'm not one of them, never will be.
Some people that go there have manners :)

We should totally go when it re-opens.

White water, freestyle, and ocean surfing is great :). Been paddling for near 4 years now in a G-force 6.1. Anybody else able to double pump?

Finally pulled off flatwater cartwheel yesterday. Still need more core strength though, plus my technique is rubbish. But I'm getting there.

Had another day on the Dee, Llangollen yesterday. Grade 2 white water, no swimming :D I'm loving this. Going again a week on Monday, can't wait:) I didn't ache as much this morning as I did last week. I think I need to do some stretching/yoga exercises and press ups to help with my upper body strength, and the twisting and turning.

Which bits did you do? I do love the Dee, just so flipping far to travel! (Town falls is ace)

Jono - Nice one on the cartwheel, what boat have you got? Can't see myself cartwheeling my RPM anytime soon :D

From what I've heard of the Barrage they're making it so that its a pumped course, so that it can be run at anytime, rather than being stuck to tidal variations. That's a bit 2nd hand knowledge, so dunno if its right or not.
