Amy Winehouse found dead

Ultimately, she could help herself. She made the choice to take drugs. No drugs, no overdose. The selfish bitch decided to do her own thing, ie, take more drugs. I can only hope that her legacy will to discourage others from taking drugs

Perhaps because they are not dead inside? Jesus, have a little compassion ffs!

com·pas·sion

   [kuhm-pash-uhn]
noun 1. a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.

I have no sympathy for her and feel no sorrow. I have no desire to alleviate the suffering for her death. So no, no compassion being shown here.

Some quite offensive posts in here.:(

Regardless of whether she was/wasn't talented, regardless of whether she made music i liked. Regardless of whether i thought she looked a mess.

Her mother, father , brother and close family must be devastated right now, and my sympathy lies with them.

It's been an interesting post just to see people responses. I've realised some of the more well versed posters actually have very little real world experience. The naivety about drug addiction/mental illness is cringeworthy.

Out of interest, what do you think of overweight people?

Like drug abusers, they are harming and disrespecting their bodies, but I somehow feel you would treat them less scornfully.

If people die because they knew the risk then i don't expect people to shed a tear. I love motorbikes and i nearly died on one but if i had died at least it would be doing something by choice.

drug addiction takes away that choice.

if ya die don't you at least want it to be your choice (right or wrong/good or bad - obv not suicide) until you're older(and fate takes over)?
:)

Schadenfreude - pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others - Madeleine McCann was a classic example.

It is not uniquely a characteristic of people posting on this forum, nor I suspect, even unique to the English.

You only need to look at our gutter press to see how determinedly people are built up for the sole purpose of knocking them down again and enthusiastically reveling in their fall from grace.

I suspect that there is an element of smug self-congratulation combined with a feeling of "there but for the grace of luck go I".

There is an alcoholic with obvious 'issues' who posts regularly on this forum whilst completely off his head to the enthusiastic encouragement of many - when everything goes to hell in a hand-cart for him, those same people will roar with laughter and say that it was all his fault.

Sick, sad and selfish people without so much as a hint of humanity, understanding or compassion :(

I'm sure it links to insecurity in the person or persons that make these comments and a need to rise above the masses and out of obscurity, however it has the reverse effects to the intended aim.

Again, sad and you no doubt have no idea what you're talking about.

Not really, it is ultimately everyones choice at the end of the day

Might as well say that everyone who gets addicted to drugs is selfish and deserves to die, which is just ignorant.

How many people commenting actually have experience of drug and alcohol problems in their life?

It does make it even more unfortunate that she had all the means in the world to help herself - a willing and close family, access to the best professional and medical support that is available to a select few and apparently a sympathetic management company who didn't pressurise her.

She just lacked the will.

Russell Brand put it best in his Guardian article. He says when you're the parent of a drug addict, you wait for the phone call. It is either her calling you to ask for help to arrange rehab, or a call saying she has died. There isn't anyone else could have done.

Easy to say that but as pointed out before, having money and access to support doesn't fix things as easily as you might think.

Oh I'm not saying anyone could have done better for her but drugs do strange things to people and screw with your head.
