Battlefield 3 no XP support

uuuuh

I can't be bothered to even begin to say how wrong you are, but sufficed to say, you are VERY wrong.

might sound like off-topic but thats not where i am aiming at. Since OP said no xp, i thought battlefield 3 would look great if it was merged with enemy territory (wolfenstein) classes, xp, game is now very dated but, with new engine it could be ressurected, i wonder if they can make a mode in bf3 - enemy territory :D

Ooh, there's a whole load of fun here, all mixed into one point. Ultimately though it comes down to the fact that BF3 should run very well indeed on my system. It runs on a 360, so my system should bring it to it's knees, not the other way around. If they want to add extra DX11 eye candy then that's one thing, but for it to do less than 200fps on medium on my system is nothing short of incompetence. That it will barely run at all even if I were to upgrade OS is either world class incompetence or straight up villainy.

And it all ties neatly into what I consider an upgrade. Using extra RAM isn't an upgrade, 64 bitness isn't an upgrade. An upgrade is a larger world, more believable AI or at the very least better graphics, and if those aren't on offer then I'm not going to be held to ransom buying new hardware and software just to run games that look and play the same as or worse than games I can already run.

As for piecemeal upgrades that doesn't make sense either. With the exception of a handful of incredibly poorly optimised titles my current PC can run everything released before this year on high settings with a decent framerate. If I want the same on titles released this year then aside from a new OS I need a better processor and more RAM, which ultimately means a motherboard upgrade and before long a graphics card upgrade too. That's pretty much an entire replacement system. No point in spending £60 on RAM and £70 on a new OS that I'll need to replace in a year anyway.

This all adds up to just say never buy anything PC related ever again then if you get upset when it goes out of date.

and the thread is alive again :)

im on windows 7 ULTIMATE now on a dual boot with XP (but if someone installed this OS for me i would have no way of telling im on ultimate) i still like XP better, i get better FPS on games on XP and my eyes are starting to hurt as im typing here because of 'something' that this OS does to text, although it appears more sharp/clear than on XP i can't look at it for too long before it 'fuzzes' i cant explain it good but its another thing i DONT get on XP.. EVER
i have all updates installed on here so its not a driver issue, but when on BFBC2 the FPS can drop down to 30 at times where on XP its stays above 65 always

thats all for now EYES EYES EYES! :(

I hate the search function on 7, xp was so so much better.

agree, on XP things were just so easy to find but on 7 they made stuff very hard to find so your 'forced' to use the search, i wouldn't mind if they didn't move everything around and added the quick search function in there anyway 'just in case' you want it there :(

Doesn't BFBC2 support DX10 and 11? Which you wouldn't have been getting on XP.

You mean ClearType? XP has it as well, you need to turn it on though.

1. You can re-calibrate it to suit your taste, or disable it altogether.
2. How screwed are your eyes?

The annoying dog that takes ages to do anything? 7's far better. :p

Come on its not rocket science,I always find these sort of answers very lame.

No excuse really if you are a gamer,Win7 is miles better then XP in so many areas, infact I bet you'll find more holes in XP then you would in space ;).

But unless you disabled DX10/11 support you're now running at higher settings than you were, so comparing frame rate is pointless if the settings aren't identical.

ok what part are you not getting? you have a dx10 card right? when you run bc2 in xp its running on dx9 when you use windows 7 its using dx10 hence the drop in frames

how do i enable/disable DX10/11 support???

im starting to think that BC2 may have been running in DX9 mode on Win 7 :o
reason being that i found out that i can use one 'steam folder' between 2 OS's (or as many as i want) which is awesome as everything is installed once BUT DX10 'may' be auto-disabled because of this :( but as far as i can tell theres no option to toggle DX10 mode on/off? not like other games like Resident Evil 5 that let you choose before the game is launched

It automatically chooses the highest DX level your computer supports. You can manually set it lower if you open the settings.ini and change the DxVersion= line.
