Hi all, new here so go easy on me;)

Looking to build new gaming PC early 2012 so just thought i would get an insight on what you people recon the best stuff to get for about £1000 would be. Obviously prices will probably have dropped a bit buy then and also new hardware will be on the scene. I have had a quick look around and like the look of the

1, i7 Bloomfield or Sandybridge?

2,Asus P67 Sabertooth Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION **

3,Corsair vengeance blue 8gig kit

4,Asus Geforce GTX 580 Matrix

5,Corsair HX 850W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply

6,Cooler a bit stuck here? Air cooled or liquid?

7,Thermaltake Chaser mk1 case

OOPPS! over budget already :) not to worry

Already have -- Samsung SyncMaster 2433 running at 1920 x1200 / Satic Ecilipse 2 key board / Razor diamond back mouse / Ocz vertex 2 60gb SS / Western Digital caviar black 500g.

Generally play FPS, Racing Games, Flight sims.

But I get the inclining that there will be a large or significant jump in game graphics in the next six months or so. So would like something to be ready for that time.

Let me know what you think?

I am not a wealthy guy so would like it to last a while like my old trusty AMD6000 3.3ghz / Asus M2N32 Sli Deluxe / BFG 9800GTX oc / OCZ sli ram 4 gig. done me good for about 3/4 years now but struggling to keep up now.
a bit like my self ;)

Hi and welcome to the forums :)

1) Definitely Sandybridge, here is a comparison of an i7 950 and an i5 2500K:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/100?vs=288

2) Don't spend that much money on a P67 board, Z68 is the way to go!

3) There is no point buying that expensive Vengeance stuff. Really, it is no better than anything else. Also, it will block any decent cooler.

4) Personally, I think that the 580 is overpriced, but there is nothing cheaper that stands up to it.

5) Unless you are planning on going SLI with the 580, 850W is overkill. Even if you do go SLI you might be able to get away with 750W, but let someone else confirm this first.

6) For an i5 2500K, something as simple as the Gelid Tranquilo will allow you to get a good 4.5GHz overclock. If you wanted some extra cooling though, the Silver Arrow is one of the best air coolers on the market, although you would have to change the tall Vengeance for this. If you wanted to go watercooling, one of the Corsair Hydro series would be good and would not interfere with the RAM.

7) Cases are mostly down to personal taste, and so this one you can decide on ;)

Based on this, here is a build I have come up with for you:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gainward GeForce GTX 580 "GOOD Edition" 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £369.98
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £161.99
1 x Asus P8Z68-V Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £129.98
1 x Lepa B-Series 850W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular Power Supply £92.99
1 x Cooler Master CM-690 II Lite Dominator Case - Black £59.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) £27.98
1 x Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £25.99
Total : £883.91 (includes shipping : £12.50).

OcUK don't stock the Thermaltake Chaser, so I went with a case that I find nice, and hopefully you will as well ;)

Thanks for the welcome jordan97.

Like the price:)

But what are your thoughts on SLI/ X-fire etc, Is it worth it or would it just be better to go for a larger card. Bang for buck and all that.
