hey all

how many of you own a cut throat razor?

I was thinking of getting one so I could do a perfect line on my level 1 or level 0 all round haircut

just wondering how many of you use such a thing

Don't bother, they're really difficult to use.

I bought one, and whilst it's a nice idea, they are a royal PITA to get the hang of (and potentially rather injuring!).

I don't think you'd be able to do what you want to do with one either.

I've used cut-throats for about 4 years, it took ages to learn and get really good. But once I was, I got better shaves than with any other method.

I've only ever done my face though. I've never tried doing my head, that idea sounds like it has disaster written all over it!

I have one. But I also live in a Victorian era house decorated as befitting the period and believe myself a steampunk inventor. I go to work on a penny-farthing with a hand glider attached but reminiscent of bat wings.

I've got one, treated myself and it's great but I don't use it for every shave now as it's a bit of a mission. I wouldnt go near my scalp with it mind, and I'm pretty handy with it.

never had one, never gonna own one, for some reason it puts me off after seeing eastern promises, who seen the movie might understand where i am coming from

I have. I'm not sure if the cut throat razor was any more off putting than Viggo Mortensen's junk all over the screen.

Who am I kidding, his junk is lovely.

I bought a cheap Japanese one that takes replaceable blades. I was getting on OK until I forgot I wasn't using a safety razor. Pushed too hard and sliced my cheek :o

They look cool but they're more effort than they're worth.

I don't see the appeal of owning something that could slice my throat everytime I had a shave ta very much

okay so what most of you are saying is

DON'T BOTHER?!

I think mostly there was one guy that said that.

Straight blades are tough to get used to. You will certainly get a few cuts along the way, but usually no worse than when you change your modern razor blade head over and forget you arn't using the old blunt one anymore =)

However, once you are used to it it is great,it is a skill and a hobby you can take pride in. It makes having a shave an enjoyable experience rather than a chore. If you have the patience to stick with it and a little bit of extra time which is require to look after the blade then I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Do you also use safety scissors to cut paper? Or what about kitchen knives? You could use a nice safe, almost blunt, knife to cut most food. Why risk hurting your fingers with those nasty sharp knives?

It's not about 'owning' something sharp, it's about taking more care and learning a skill which results in a better shave when you have learnt that skill.

Because when I cut paper, I don't hold it to my throat and neck ;) and knowing me in the mornings, I am in a rush and just want to get out the door.
