New 2.0 TFSI VW out of oil after 4k miles

My Alfa 147 used a ltr per 1000 on the dot, in the end it was two tanks of fuel and 1 ltr in the top without dipping as it was always spot on, didn't burn any to create smoke and didn't leak, Selenia oil was just very very thin, God knows where it went.

I got shot of it after 100,000 miles so I did £1,000 in oil plus the regular oil changes.

Something that meets VAG 507 spec, preferably a Castrol Edge of some variety. 5w-30 maybe

Thanks

So how do you top up your washer fluid then ? ...I usally do them both together.

Yah I need to do that too. owning a car is a pain the the ass:p

Neither has this one. It probably holds 6 litres - and it requires 1 litre. It's simply informing you, as it should, to add more.

Ah ok, thats good to know.

Thanks for the info everyone, I feel a little silly now but I really did not think that a car would consume oil unless something was wrong with it.

My washer bottle holds more water than a thimble, so I don't need top it up every week.

I do check the oil, water, pas and brake/clutch fluid - but not every week, that's silly.

99% of cars don't consume any oil at that age.

but you should change after the first 1k or so

Erm, I went to the dealership (and got royally ripped off no doubt) because it was the only way I could be absolutely sure not to balls up and put in the wrong oil thus knackering in the long life service schedule. :)

So does mine, the Jag's is huge infact, I think it holds about 6 litres or so.

You don't have to do it every week really, I do mine about once a month on average, sometimes more. But like I said, it really depends on how many miles you do, I don't do many really.

If I had a car that burnt oil though I'd probably check it more often. Indeed when I change my car I always check the oil every few days for about the first month of ownership, while I get handle on weather or not it does use any significant amount.

Checking the oil in his own car actually takes 3 seconds and two clicks of iDrive.

Yep I have done this in the past.

I wonder if my brother even knows how to check the oil. I will send him to sort it out tomorrow, should be interesting.
