Steam - Can I install games onto different drives?

Just bought a SSD and my Steam library is bigger than the capacity of the SSD.

I boot Steam on my windows so want it to run off my SSD for a quick boot however I want the games to be held and run off my D drive which is 1GB. Is there a option where I install steam but it runs the files from a different location? Thank you.

Old Valve games are positioned differently in the Steam directory.

Most games are found in Steam/SteamApps/Common, but any Valve games that pre-date Left4Dead(?) as well as a few third party ones, live in Steam/SteamApps/<Account Name>.

GSM doesn't recognise them and you'll have to do them manually. I'm not sure if SteamMover sees them.
 
Argh sounds like a lot of work! I would have just installed Steam on the other drive to start put I want to keep a couple of games on this drive and have Steam run off this drive for speed too.

I'd just move Steam in it's entirety to the mechanical drive. It's easy enough to do.

You'll get next to no benefit from having the client on the SSD. With it on the HDD, then you can just move the game(s) you're playing at a particular moment over to the SSD when you need them.

Having the client on the SSD, and moving all the games you don't want on there seems like a massive wast of effort. ;)
 
It's just because i've got stream to boot as soon as I log in. I think you're right I might just give this up it's not worth the effort at all.

When you move Steam, you can still keep it so it starts on boot. :)

It's definitely worth sticking games on SSD individually for load times, but as the client just sits in the background and trundles along, there's no real reason to bother. :)

Oh I know that but I just wanted everything that I have on my Startup to boot from my SSD so my boot won't be slugged down during boot. Thanks for all the help decided just to install on my mechanical drive as it's a hassle for too minimal a gain.
