Would a 1000w PSU be enough?

Sorry, thought you being sarcastic .... which that #roll eyes' thing is supposed to mean ;)

It would be really nice to see a recent benchmark of the 4870x2, i wish they would include them in a more recent card comparison table.

So, last week I bought the Silverstone 1200w psu...

Plugged it in and the fan span up for a half a second the stopped. I tried for hours to figure out why it was happening, but seeing as how if I plugged in my Corsair psu it booted up no problems I came to conclusion that it was faulty.

I sent it back, and today I received an email telling me that they have tested it and had no problems booting into windows

Any idea what is going on, im a bit confused :(

Which GPU costs £200 and is faster than 2 4870x2's ?

Bearing in mind i have little interesting in upgrading my card 'just for dx11'.

well, best GPU for £200 is the 6950 2GB. Don't think it will beat a 4870X2 crossfire (On par with 285 SLI?).

Not long ago you could get a 480GTX for around that price, that would have probably beaten your setup.

Unless I'm completely off the mark...

Oh yeah, I would probably go with a a GTX570, there is the MSI at £230. That and a Antec HCG 620W / XFX 650W / Lepa 750W will set you back £300.

EDIT : Must. Read. Thread.

What makes you believe your card supports DX11? (genuine question, not trolling). The 4870 supports up to DX10.1, but the 5000-series were the first ATI cards that supported DX11.

It was this that gave me the idea it was....or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

How well do 2 4870x2 scale?

I'm wondering... If you could do it without losing money, sell both 4870x2, then buy 2x6950

Might perform close/same/better while using half the power, meaning a good quality 850w PSU would be enough

Have done some benchmark comparisons:
This shows a 6950 is about same performance as 5870 but with a little less power:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/294?vs=293

This shows comparison between one 5870, and one 4870x2 (roughly equal)
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/174?vs=162

One 5870 consumes far less power then 4870x2 while being nearly equal in performance

By that logic, if you got 2x5870, 1x 5970, or 2x6950 you would have
- roughly the same performance
- much lower power consumption
- DX11

Note the power differences:
Total system power consumption while playing crysis

4870x2: 460
5870: 310

Quite a bit!

......Except i bought the 1200w Silverstone psu already

But it wouldn't work in my pc and the people I bought it off have tested it and says it is fine.

So now I have a £200 psu I cannot use

Really wish I'd gone with the Corsair now :(

Only graphics card I am willing to upgrade to at this time is the 6990, and preferably the Asus Directcu one.
