Battlefield 3 no XP support

ah ok so BF3 will look a lot nicer but will be less playable as DX10 will eat into the FPS

so why is there no DX9 again?

To get DX9 on Windows 7 with BC2 open settings.ini in the BFBC2 folder in Documents and change dxversion= to 9.

They should still be supporting DirectX 5.2, we'd get far better FPS with that!....

I'm considering it. It's not so much I get upset when it goes out of date as I hate the idea of upgrading and getting nothing to show for it. My present system runs Crysis and that looks way better than BF3.

you are using an operating system that is a decade old.
you have no justification for your argument.
I really fail to understand the existence of XP die hards, sure it was ok when vista was about, but 7 has been around for 2 years now including RTM release. its established and it works.

fact is, Vista/7 is a prerequisite to play BF3. if you want to play BF3 then you will need a new OS.

Turn ClearType on in Windows 7 if that's how you prefer it then.

Seriously, you're having a conversation regarding ClearType in a thread which is talking about BF3 not being playable on XP. Wow. Just wow.

As for the people with XP and who don't get Windows 7...7 is miles better than XP. Wake up and join the future.

That looks horrid, I'm guessing you also don't use AA in games because you prefer it nice and sharp too?

all i know is the XP default text is perfect for me to read and i can never get it 'just right' using cleartype

Yeah why not? It's on page 10 already, everything has been discussed, twice.

Might as well help someone with their Windows 7 preferences so the will stick with it instead of saying how XP is better.

Of course I have AA, but AA in games makes the lines nice and sharp, where as the text in QlimaxUK's image is not sharp, it's blurred.

It does, but I'm not sure why since I use Cleartype and I don't think this is blurry at all.

Yeah I seem to remember when I set mine that it was more than ClearType settings I had to change, can't remember what it was though.

You know that saying Xp is 10 years old is a sophistic argument and I know it's a sophistic argument so why bother using it?

As for Win7 some people say it's good, others say it's basically the same as Vista. Either way upgrading makes no sense, my PC has a year or two left in it at most, it's not worth upgrading OS at this stage. It means I'll not be getting BF3 but I can cope with that. The only thing that bothers me is that it works on a 360, there's really no reason why it would need Win7.

It's on the Xbox because..

1) Big demand, barely anyone uses XP, but lots use the Xbox.
2) It will be limited on the Xbox.

If you're going to upgrade in a year anyway, why not do it now?
