Hey,

I currently have an sgs i9000 and although its a good phone I'm looming at trading it in for an experia play as the main reason I want a smartphone for is games but I didn't realise I despise touchscreen co.trolls

I'm just asking if anyone has experiece with both and what they would recommend as I'm pretty sure the xperia play would suit my needs but I dont want it if its flimsy and unresponsive

The bigger problem is finding a large enough selection of games that play on the play just to warn you. Most games are aimed at the whole market and while some support the play it's not a large share.

Just make sure you love gaming, because all other aspects of the Play are a pretty big let-down.

the only thing i use my mobile for is gaming, texting, the odd call and browsing the net. I also use it for the GPS but the GPS on the SGS isnt worth keeping the phone for, and from what ive read it seems the GPS is good on the xperia play.

This, its apparently got such a dull screen it looks and feels "broken" I wouldnt touch it with a barge poll. The games on mobiles arent good enough to even warrant buying a specific device for them.

The price is still falling (like a brick) on the xPeria Play. I think it'll hit £250 fairly soon from the major etailers, it's already £300ish... probably worth punt at that price?

ok then it seems ive gone against the general opinion and i may regret it but ive just picked one up for £190 used but in very good condition (so says the ebay listing anyway) im gonna give it a play for a couple of days then decide wether to relist it and keep my sgs or sell the sgs (well im listing the SGS tomorrow and may pull it if i dont like the play)

cheers anyway, all im after is somthing to play some decent games on at my lunch break without having to bring in a gaming device

Amazing, I'd have thought the Bravia technology would be really good like their TV's.

The Play doesn't have Bravia technology, the Arc does and has a great screen. If the Play had been the Arc with a gamepad they would have had a winner.

Actually had a play with one of these.

Some nice bits but the sensor pads where the stocks should be pretty much IMO make the whole thing a bit pointless...its just the same as trying to use a stick on a screen, yes you have the dpad but its not great TBH.

And I did notice the screen but thought maybe the brightness etc was turned down or sommin, the one I tried wasn't for me to fool about it.

I had to do that thing handing it back to the owner of saying that its really good etc as they just bought it.

Ah, you're right. I'd seen a youtube review and also read a review and both claimed it had a bravia engine, but it doesn't.

Bravia technology is a marketing brand thing, don't read anything into it just compare it to other screens in a shop.

Nice I hope the pads are in good nick, let us know what you think.

finally got it and i thought i would give it a few days to let the new toy fever wear off before saying anything

i agree with the comments that its not the best of phones but its almost the same as a phone as the SGS without lagfixes etc.. enabled, the battery life is far better then the SGS and the screen although i miss the real black blacks isnt as bad as a lot of people say, i removed the stock screen protector that is very thick and it does improve the screen colour and response a lot.

as a gaming device its about on par with a psp as the gameloft games are of very similar (maybe a bit better graphicly) quality to a lot of psp outings, the big benefit is the controller and it is nice and responsive only problem is the triggers are abit 'squishy' but as an emulation machine - pretty much anything psx and pre its great and the main benefit i dont have to carry around anything other then my phone to be able to play games with decent controlls - which is what i wanted from it.

personally for me its great, i can see why many will see it as a bit of a letdown as a top quality smartphone but as a portable gaming phone its excellent
