Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to get a punctured bike inner tube replaced at halfords? (including parts an labour)

The reason I ask is my sisters mate's dad is dropping round a bike for me to change the inner tube and fix up the brakes and I know the inner tube costs about £5 but am not sure what to charge for labour. I want to be considerably cheaper and faster than halfords to make a good impression but also want a bit of cash :D

Any ideas?

Read the whole thing before replying. I know how to change an inner tube.

I am a cyclist myself

Surely you could do this yourself without it taking long enough to charge someone for it. Just charge them abit more for the innatube. I could replace one in 5-10 mins

guide to changing inner tube.

remove wheel with quick release/ajustable spanner
obtain mams spoons

the end.

They will laugh at you.

Who the hell takes a bike in for a puncture? Didn't we all learn how to do this ourselves from the age of 8?

Actually, I did it myself for the first time at the grand age of 23 :o

And yes I made a big ridiculous fuss about how hard it was.... which wasn't very :D

He knows literally nothing about bikes and wants to give me some work and a money making opportunity. He is a nice guy ;)

*cough*... yeah i stopped reading after sister's mate's dad - sounded like a typical excuse setup. Anyway, teach him? Basic stuff, everyone should know this.

If you know literally nothing about bikes should you even be allowed to ride them? I can't stand when people don't look after them, it's like i try it out then ask them "bloody hell, when was the last time you did the tyre pressures?" and they just stare at me blankly.

FFS. He's doing the bloody repair himself
He want to know how much he can charge and is using halfords as a comparison

£15 is what I'd say is reasonable. It's a puncture so not exactly hard work.

EDIT: beaten. Stupid BT

No idea how much they'd charge... But given that they charge £15 to fit a set of £100 roof bars (I was buying roof bars last week and read all their guff) I'd guess they'll charge about £10 to do an inner tube.

Maybe obvious, but make sure to check the inside of the tyre before you stick the new tube in... I dread to think how many times I've inflated a new tube into the hawthorn that got the last one.

I don't understand why you would want to charge for something that will essentially take minutes. Just parts and a beer maybe

Although saying that if I'm doing repair work and I went to a job I usually say 1st hour £25, it may be something that takes 10 mins and they are quite happy to give me a tenner, I wouldnt feel right charging someone £25 for 10 minutes work.
