I win. I wonder how many posts you could fit within another post...

Support may be dead, but if you have a copy, you can still use it. They didn't even bother with license keys back then.

My PC experience started with DOS 3 and Windows 1. Am I showing my age? :D

Wow, I've still got 2.11 somewhere (I think) from the 80186 Minolta's - yes, 80*1*86 processors. Blimey.

I was an amiga owner, so my first windows was 3.1 iirc. I still remember faffing around in dos for some games, and we certainly used it at school.

I can't even remember the basics now, for example how do you get to the root directory? E.g in dos how would you go from c:\users\name\my documents to c: or from c: to d:?

I remember becoming a pro at MSDOS because I messed up Windows at a very early age, had no one to fix it and therefore resorted to learning to do everything I needed via dos!

Still has useful commands:

IPCONFIG is another.

If you've not looked before type in HELP at the prompt to get a list of the most common commands.

It's like riding a bike, you never really forget

Dos simply rocked. Doskey = My fav all time program, and MSCDEX.exe = the worst pos/pita ever.

I remember having to issue the "park" command on my first PC when powering down - the days before hard drives had self parking heads :)

I remember the park command on IBM PS series machines :)

Come to think of it, I remember the size of a 20mb IBM PS2 series hard drive, that was a big beastie for a "personal" computer.
They were 5.25" FULL height, all standard PC CD drives are half height for those that need a comparison.
