I have replaced only the brake disks, timing belt, fan belt, Vehicle Speed Sensor, and the little spring in the shift lever that auto centres from 1st and 2nd :p. I have owned it for 6.5 years from about 65,000.

Until it dies or is impractical to keep running.

Currently the central locking doesn't work but I've not actually spent any time trying to find out why. Apart from that there is nothing wrong with it and the car runs beautifully which I'm very pleased about.

The problem wit the locking is that most times when I manually open the driver door the other 3 don't unlock. While most of the time I can reach through and do it, the front passenger door is sometimes stuck locked until the system decides that its a great time to unlock and you hear it all clicking and unlocking as you drive along. This has meant me climbing through the window one night when the wife was driving me and some mates home and the wife sitting in the back on a few occasions.

Also the boot release button on the dash only works 1/4 of the time. The buttons on the fob don't work at all but again i've not looked at why beyond a flat battery.

Full suspension ( for the lulz ), Gearbox, gearbox mounts, engine mounts, ballast, power steering pulley, pressure converters, egr solenoids, vacuum hoses, water pump, thermostat, egr thermostat, 1 hose and now going to be a rusty arches next most likely.

Wow, and I thought mine was pretty bad.

Not a spot of rust anywhere on mine, although I just realised when reading your list that mine did have a single engine mount replaced (nearside).

None as of yet. Bought the car 6 weeks ago on 103,000. I am going to service it soon (112,500 it's due) and want to check out the state of the engine mounts, perhaps they are a little worn. I need to replace the Ford Tail gate badge as it's flaked.

The foreseeable future unless my usage drops significantly but the estate is useful for my hobbies too.

Everything works as it should. There is some rattle coming from the boot area of the vehicle and I am gradually removing different bits of trim trying to pin-point the source.[/QUOTE]

Looking for a Merc CL W215 to replace it - the BMW still drives very smoothly and solidly, but just fancy a change.

Oh I'm used to high fuel costs...I had a 360bhp RX7 FD before the Beemer!

I was considering an SL too, but the lack of rear seats would get to me.

Not really comparable, i am surprised you are considering them side by side. If you want the vario roof then you want the vario roof. Save yourself a fortune and get the more practical and much cheaper CL if you dont "know" you want the convertible.

Struggling to think of anything major, just shocks, tyres, pads and consumables. It's been off the road for 4 years now. I drove it constantly for 5 years before that. Most reliable car i've ever owned.

How long do you intend to keep the car for?
It's now a donor car for an identical '96 i'm rebuilding so the shell will be scrapped this year. Had some good times in it and sad to see it go but it was not worth renovating it to a standard I would be happy with.
