DOOM 4 In Full Production? Details At QuakeCon?

Loved DooM 3, shame I can't play it at 1920 x 1080 on Windows 7 as I would love to re-play it.

How so? WidescreenGamingForum has the instructions on how to get it working with non-4:3 resolutions, and I don't get any problems running it on Windows 7 with the spec below?

Doom 3 was an excellent game, but limited by the hardware available at the time. I imagine current multicore CPUs would make it possible to have scenes with a lot more demons at once and larger areas to fight in.

I would like to be able to fight multiple cyberdemons in Doom 4 in large arenas (using convential weaponry and not the silly soul cube), or hordes of hellknights, not just one or two. Add some co-op action, and you have something truly epic.

Really?

There is a couple of things they don't cover, this is the way I normally do it.

1. Run the game. Go to the system, options, and controls and set it all up how you'd like it. Obviously the resolution doesn't matter.

2. Quit and go to the Doom 3/base directory. Open DoomConfig.cfg in Notepad. Find the three lines you need to edit (to set the width, length, and aspect ratio). Make sure you set all three using the directions given on WSGF.

3. Save the file and then set it to READ ONLY. I found that if I didn't do this, Doom 3 would just revert to 640x480 or somesuch when I ran it.

4. Play Doom 3. Note the menus, PDA, and cutscenes will still be in some odd 4:3 resolution. Once you get into the game though, you should have it in your chosen WS resolution.

Doom was the game that kept me from falling asleep the night I wanted go wait outside Tikka Masla*s at 4 AM to be first in line to get one of the two N64s they were getting on day of release.

I played it with some headphones and the sound quite loud, it worked a treat as I got my N64 like I planned :D

Doom 3 was excellent, as was Resurrection of Evil. I'm looking forward to Doom 4 more than Rage. People moaned about Doom 3 having too many cheap scares and closet monsters, but I loved all that. :)

Btw, Quakecon starts 4th August till 7th August, doors open 9am CST which is 3pm GMT I think. Can't wait, Quake live duels is what I watch the streams for.

Did anyone see that Quake-mod for Doom3? Was a whole level you could play in Quake 1 style but in the D3 engine. Amazing! That's what I want... basically an updated version of the medieval/horror/occult theme from Quake 1. What a perfect style/atmosphere that had! And even the first couple of Dooms were a bit like this too. Some gnarly Nazi-esque stuff going on. I hope they don't just have monsters in outer space as a theme again, but go for something a little more original.

Loved Doom 3...for the first 4 levels or so, then it became predictable like Dead Space. D3 was the only game to geniunely scare me to the point where I was afraid to go any further (Condemned was the second). Superb atmosphere and ambience to the game coupled with the most useless torch of all time.

Look forward to D4, but until this thread I didn't even know it was in production!

Can't wait to hear about this, loved Doom 3 to bits, it was just dripping with atmosphere. Can't play it on my current rig mind you, all the lighting effects show up as white blocky 3d objects. Resurrection of Evil works fine mind you.

I remember the trailers for Doom 3 had the demons clambering up walls, bursting out of grates and all sorts. Then came the actual game and none of this AI was included, we just had the occassional scripted moment. Too many false promises, and I felt let down in the end.

I remember the same with the HL2 gameplay trailer - Gordon barricading the door with the table and the combine kicking the door in and spraying bullets through the windows; all in real time

The game was genuinely scary and definitely had moments of dread and doom. It should be appluaded for that. I will always look forward to Doom games, I just hope that what they demo actually makes it into the finished game.

Would love a new Quake tbh. 3 and Live are awesome and all but a fresh Quake could be amazing. I'd like it in the style of the original personally

Agreed.... Just age/timing maybe but Quake absorbed me way more than Doom. I was 15 when Quake came out.

Quake 2 was pretty good as well.... the more sc-fi element didn't quite have the same atmosphere and feeling of the first Quake however... I'd love to have again.... Slightly medieval, modern guns... intimidating looking buildings...

Funny enough, the thing that most people complain about in Doom 3, the lack of huge numbers of mobs all at once, is the thing that put me off Quake when it came out. That and the fact that it was brown all over :p

Be more interested to see what RAGE is like seeing as theyve not had a game in years. Funny thing is RAGE seems to be almost ignored at the moment as BF3 is grabbing all the attention.

I cant wait to get my hands on rage im in the process of building a new rig aswell. after watching some vids of rage it seems like they have built a solid shooter.

Agreed. Rage looks very promising. Doom 4 will use the same engine so I'm interested to see what Rage is like.

Rage will be great, you can tell from the videos, Doom 4 wont be ready for ages yet, i'm more interested next year in FAR CRY 3.

DOOM 4 ? end of next year or 2013, who knows!
