Dell Ultrasharp U3011 or Hazro HZ30Wi

Don't know much about the HZ30Wi.

I have the Dell u2410 and it's a superb monitor.

The Dell U3011 is on my list of next purchases.

depends on your uses i suppose but i've reviewed both models and there are some comparisons made in the review here which will hopefully help :)

Firstly thanks for your input and pointing me toward the reviews.

I use the monitor mainly for surfing, photography and watching the odd movie. I rarely play games - sorry :)

I have had a look at your excellent reviews and am starting to wonder if 30" may be a tad too big as I sit about 2.5 foot from the monitor. However the Hazro look promising and for what I use it for and may be a better buy for me

I also read you review on the glossy Hazro 27" monitor. Now, I have always hankered after a Apply glossy monitor (I currently have a glossy laptop and love it)

So based on what I have said what would you advise?

If you want a glossy monitor, you will not go wrong with the Hazro 27.

You might want to consider HP ZR30W as a 30" monitor if you want to go down that route.

Believe me you get used to the size very quickly.

I stepped up to a 40" tv, which looked big. Didn't take long for it to blend in at all. Now the 50" dosen't even seem that big!

I would agree re TVs but then you sit a bit further away from a TV

You'd be surprised. I used mine as a monitor and wasn't sat that far away.

It's the same like the first time I got a 24" monitor over my 15". It quickly lost it's "OMG huge" factor.

I have three HZ30Wis, and they are great screens. One has a small problem (it needs switching off and on again every few days due to sudden appearance of coloured artifacts), but between them they have no dead pixels and haven't had any other major issues.

I wrote a summary of the HZ30Wi (see here), but it's pretty worthless compared to Badass's review. Also did a summary of the HP ZR30W (see here, but the same logic applies).

In short, the Dell is a great general purpose screen (OSD, lots of inputs and options), but it has a high input lag. The HP has a near-identical panel to the U3011, but is at heart a pure PC screen (few inputs, no OSD), with a very low input lag (ideal for gaming).

The Hazro is also a cut-down pure PC monitor, but with a slightly older panel. In all honesty, the difference in quality between the two panels is not as big as I was expecting, making the Hazro pretty good value in my eyes. This being said, you will get a much better support package with HP or Dell. Hazro's after-sales support is still pretty much non-existent.

yeah but with tv's you are still hampered with the low resolution @1080p, monitors are not only better resolution but much more clear and crisp. and as you go bigger with a tv the pixels also get bigger as you are at the same resolution, so therefore the picture quality is actually degrading,

+1 i hate using my 42" as a monitor

The U3011 is excellent and I can throughally recommend it. Sitting 2.5ft away like you I have no problems using it, also if you wall mount it like I plan to do it will be even further way. Like others have said you get used to the size very quickly and wonder how you ever did without it. Like you I went from 24" U2410 (1200P) to the 30" 2560x1600 monitor and it is easily the best upgrade I've ever done.

The reviews Baddass linked to show you the differences, for me the U3011 was really the only choice, I needed the scaler and the extra inputs as I use it on many different systems and always more than one at a time.

Putting aside the differences Dells service and warranty is excellent, so I'd have a hard job recommending any other make after the nightmare problems I've had with repair warranties in the past. You'll also notice that people have had plenty of issues with the Hazro's, I've not really seen the same amount of people with U3011 issues. Even if you do get a bad one though you can swap it out at the door as many times as you need.

I don't know why I did not think of this before, I contacted my Dell account manager and he has quoted £720 + Vat for the U3011 which is £864 so not much more than the Hazro.

Before I push the button I need to check my Graphics card will cope. Any idea what spec card I will need if my existing one is not suitable? (Remember I do not play games)

That is a bargain, I paid quite a bit more for mine.

Pretty much any modernish graphics card will support the resolution via Dual Link DVI, what card do you have?

dell 30 owner here and i sit very close to it, you get used to it quite quick and i would never go back to a bigger tv screen at 1080p the rez is just too low.
