Bored of my iPad2.... Asus eee Transformer 3G, or Galaxy Tab 10.1??

Don't think they're a fad, if the transformer had a better office suite it would be perfect as my mobile option. Pretty sure libre office or similar will be out for android tabs sooner or later and then ideal.

A netbook, which is also a tablet and has a battery which lasts whole days. Yes, pointless.

There is still a huge tablet market for people that just browse/email/look at pictures, etc.

Obviously for the things you've described they are fairly useless. They are also extremely good for travelling like on the train, on flights and so on. Also, just for general sofa browsing, they are much nicer to use than phones.

I can see how they're popular for the mass market, people who's entire knowledge of computing is facebook. But I just assume that almost anyone who posts at overclockers is into 'proper' computers. :p

Yeah, of course. Most people here are into computers but I was more referring to the people saying they are a fad, because they really aren't.

Then why say they are a fad?

Back on topic, if you don't find an ipad being right for you then you need to look at a different form factor rather than an ipad alternative tbh.

I just don't get tablets. If you have an SGS2 or pretty much any current phone, which are like mini tablets really, why not just get a laptop, you can do more on it.

Becuase I do twang to do more on it, it's a media device and it works well at it. Also I don't want a laptop form factor that gets in the way.

I barely touch my pc anymore. The most it does is creat the f1 threads and the occasional computer game. A tablet does everything I need which is media content.

Writing this from my Sgt, tablets are awesome much better than using a laptop for sofa browsing. Obviously they are not laptop replacements but for a general device were you just want media tabs are good, for creation nothing beats a laptop or desktop. Since having my tab I've only used my PC for odin.

Android offers customisation but lacks apps compared to ios. As for out and about and during work my sg2 is perfect.

I think the answer here is nothing. You've just realised why Tablets are, for most people, nothing more than a novelty toy.

Honestly a I pad/android tablet is a great device , for me I use it everyday reading these forums while I eat breakfast in the kitchen. Use it while the mrs is watching Corro/Eastenders yes Taiwanese seem to love UK soaps! :roll eyes:

But the main win for these things is the battery life 10 hours of video/surfing if someone does a lot of travelling that is deal sealer IMO.

Try one you might like it ;)

Reflecting on what you said, yeah, I can now see the advantage of a tablet for the reasons you mentioned. I didn't realise the batteries last for about 10 hours. I have to admit, that is very good for watching movies on the go.

:)

I think the key point here is that they are fantastic for some people.

Obviously they aren't ever going to replace a PC for gaming, proper video editing, etc!
