Don't stand in the open then, ask for ammo/meds from behind cover, easy.
If that's your biggest issue with the social key then you're really petty.
Let's make this clear : Commo-rose IS a game-defining feature, without which, Battlefield would be nothing more than a shallow running-and-gunning game. Honestly, I am really upset when I learn that some of us don't even care about the feature.
Commo-rose allows effective communication between teammates (not just squad mates) when it comes to situations like asking for ammo, med packs or

Me: Requesting a pickup, over!
Squadie: Roger that.
Me: Thanks. Let's move!
Squadie: Okay.
Squadie 2: We need support, do you copy?
Me: You got it.
See how intuitive it is?
The 'Magic Q button' in BC2 was an attempt to replace Commo-rose but so far it has been too inconvenient, ineffective and you simply could not say 'Thank you' , 'Affirmitive/Deny' and 'follow me' with that button.
The social button used in BC2 was designed for the console players, BF2 commo rose is so much more indepth and personal whether it was asking for a ride, asking for the squad leaders orders, needing repairs, spotting the enemy or saying thanks or sorry, BF2 commo rose is a feature that needs to be in BF3 to aid teamplay, we shouldn't need to be doing a petition.
Commo rose in my opinon, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT tool for teamplay. It was very annoying to play BC2 without it... I couldn't say thanks, I couldn't asked a teammate to follow me, I couldn't say "sorry", I couldn't even ask a teammate to get in the vehicle! It was horrible, and because of it there was absolutely no teamwork in BC2...
