i5 2500 vs i5 2500k worth OC for gaming ?

Ok ok, i can get both configs but i dont know, i was thinking, ok if i go for the 2500k i may have to spend 50 or so more than the 2500 (better Mobo, 15 more for the CPU and a few others for a good heatsink/fan)

so will i see really benefits from going, 3.3 to 4.0 or 4.2, for say something ? i mean if i get the K i would OC, but not more than that, im really not a experienced OCer so it does gives me a little fear OC more than 4.2 or so

i know for a fact that in heavy CPU stuff, i should see a benefit, i mean encoding, autocad, or so... but i use this for gaming not for work (maybe WORD...) so i would see a benefit spending those extra 50 to get the K ?

i could use those 40/50 in a better GPU (or just save them for the future)

GPU: HD 5770 1gb Vapor-X (OC)
CPU: Atlhon x2 5600+
OS: Win7 64bits
RAM: 4gb DDR2 1333Mhz
MONITOR: 19' 1280x720@60Hz

on a side note: i dont want to change the monitor for maybe a year or so.

Was that English?

Anyway, yes you would see a benefit in a lot of games by overclocking to 4GHz+. Don't be scared of doing so either, as you can just use the auto-OC function that most 1155 boards have for a small OC like that. You will have to click one button and the software will do all the legwork for you.

Thank you, and sorry english isnt my native, yes, i do live in the UK, but for a year or so... im from Chile, and im working here for some time soo español es mi fuerte

I just brought myself a i5 2500k, all i can say is it's damn quick.

Maxed out BFBC2 and it ate it for breakfast "literaly", this was at stock speeds with no need to overclock. originally i had a duo core 3.ghz and BFBC2 would rubberband all over the place. I5 2500k is the best bang for a buck and would recommend this to anyone. the Asus P67 is brilliant, the bios can choose the setting you want whether is turbo mode or stock it does it all for you. Saying that when i saw the bios it looked so much like a windows application i was like whoooa.

I think sooner or later you will come across a game which makes you wish that you had a little more speed and you will regret the decision not to have got the overclockable 2500K, the 2500K would be a much better long term investment even if it does cost a bit extra initially.

In games that are well-optimised for Quad, a i5 2500K at stock speed and i5 2500K overclocked to 4.6GHz is probably not gonna have any difference in frame rate if you were just using a single GPU graphic card. However, for games run in only 1~3 threads (uses only 1~3 cores), then the overclock is probably don't make the frame rate higher than with the CPU at stock speed.

If you play CPU intensive games that runs in low number of threads (i.e. WOW- it uses only 1~2 cores), then the overclock/higher clock frequency would definitely deliver higher frame rate, as with only 1~2 cores of stock speed i5 2500K being used, it can still bottleneck high-end card(s).

Same experience for me on the same game. You can play it as it is meant to be played now. Awesome CPU.

i5 2500k gives at least 33% boost in performance over non k version

because its very easy to voerclock it from 3,3ghz speed up to 4.4ghz speed

as long as you buy a cpu cooler, dont use intel free one. :)
