Ati driver woes (why did i buy ati :S)

Not reinstalled as I can't afford the time. 11.8 installed but is buggy so going to attempt 11.7. Again.

I will do it on my holiday next month, the driver installs so should be ok
 
Had the same issue a while ago and couldn't install the drivers properly. Tried driver sweeper but still wouldn't work.

The fix that worked for me was to navigate to the card in device manager, and update the driver through there.

When the driver fails to install it still installs it to the ati folder on your HD. Click update, navigate to that file and that did the trick for me.
 
Just because you haven't had issues doesn't mean that they do not exist. Lots of people had trouble with 10.2-10.6 (I think) with BFBC2 loading times, but I had no such problems, because I didn't play it...
 
In the past although I have had little in the way of major problems (just stubborn, higher stock clocks), this particular issue that some are describing did happen to me a few times as well. Where as normally I would agree to stay away from the driversweeper / cleaner software, there were in fact a few occasions where it did sort the problem out, though even this didn't eliminate the problem every time. Then, I think as one other poster mentioned, allowing Windows to find the driver through device manager always did work for me. However, the general rule of thumb for me that 'nearly' always worked was to simply install over the top of the old driver, removing the previous driver was not required as the installation process dealt with this anyway.
 
Well i played BFBC2 and had no issues so why are people so quick to blame the drivers. Maybe it is the way they install/uninstall things on thier machines.
 
Drivers have an 'Uninstall' feature that get's tested by their respective manufactures on the operating systems they support, why on earth would you use untested 3rd party software?

Just seems weird to me, never before have I had an issue with uninstalling anything...
 
I honestly can't believe that people still stick up for ATI drivers. I'm an ATI user with Crossfire 5830s, and I love them and will be sticking with them for a good few years yet, but I know full well just how rubbish ATI drivers have been in the past.

I can remember at least 4 occasions where I've reinstalled windows to mend damage done by ATI drivers. A couple of times were because of artifacts after an upgrade, once was a fresh install, first thing I installed after installing windows and it just blue screened.

Have you ever installed an ATI driver and searched for "ATI" or "CCC"? There is rather a lot of stuff left behind.

Just consider how many posts are made on this forum about rubbish ATI driver experiences, compared to how many Nvidia ones?

I will say one thing though, ever since 10.8, I've noticed a reduction in complaints, and I've had no problems at all.
 
10.8's were release in august last year. What are you trying to say Muel, do you want people to rage at ATi for driver issues they were having a year ago? you just said yourself you've had no problems since then, yet you can't understand why people stick up for ATi?

but anyway, once again, i have never had that sort of issue with ATi drivers. not with my r9500's, my x800, my 4830 or my 5850.
 
It just annoys me when people say it's a problem with the person behind the keyboard. ATI clearly don't have the best driver support, yet there are a lot of people on here who have never had problems, so they seem to believe that the drivers are fine and that everyone having trouble is a moron.

Just because I haven't had problems for a while doesn't mean no-one has, (OP for example). There's 1 very good reason I haven't had trouble since 10.8, 10.8 was the first driver that seemed to work without any massive flaws for me, so I stuck with it until 11.2 (reinstalled windows so tried the latest ones), which I'm still on.

I think it's comments such as 'I honestly can't believe that people still stick up for ATI drivers.' Like you said, ATI drivers have been completely unproblematic for a while. Also, like you said in your last post, most people have never had problems. So it's clearly a minority who do.

Those of us who don't (like me - never had any problems at all, crossfire or otherwise) just don't see what the fuss about ATI drivers is all about.
