Been offered one of these for 75quid and was wondering if they fail much? Its nearly 18months old - looking a new one as the cpu was wrecked on mine so wasn't much point in attempting to fix it as it'd end up costing more than buying brand new

Is this a 1st gen elite? I still have my original one I got a launch and havent had any issues. My brother also had one; it RRD after about 6 months.
Personally if i was in your situation I would get a new elite which will come with warranty, will be quieter and will use less power

Check the power brick if its a 150 small black one then its a Jasper model that they finally fixed ready to release the new slim about six months later

This is the key, the last Elite's (Late 2008/early 2009 onwards I think) should all be jaspers' and have the 150W PSU.. I think you are more likely to suffer a worn out DVD drive then RROD in these..
