New build annoyance - IDE optical drive

Nobody rivets the case together. Never seen a whole dell or any other riveted shut. It usually just one side that is riveted

Can't you stand her pc next to yours as tight as possible and connect her DVD via Sata to your mobo, power on hers and then yours and bobs your dogbreath!! Should work, done this before.

That's actually a very good idea if this SD card thing doesn't work :)

Not when you cannot get into the case it riveted together :p

Pretty sure the Dells just take a couple of clips to undo the case.

One side isn't riveted, which is how I found out the optical drive was SATA

I shall keep you all informed as this saga unfolds, because I bet you're all on the edge of your seats :p

Cool, I'll check that out.

I'm just waiting for the Windows 7 files to move over to the USB key. It was nearly finished but I accidentally clicked cancel, so having to do it again.

Nice and tidy, just what we like to see!

Also, if you do use YUMI to install Win 7:

* When installing Windows 7 or Vista from USB, you must unplug the USB device before the first restart, otherwise you will receive an error stating:

"windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware"

I chose not to put an optical drive in my system at all :D Never use them any more tbh. The rare occasion I NEED to get data off an optical piece of media I ISO it from my laptop and copy it over.

WOW! USB 2.0 (I think) onto a Crucial M4 SSD, and installation took no more than 10 minutes, which included me be very slow finding my product key and entering it. Reboots are taking a matter of seconds, me like :)

excellent mate, hope it doesn't explode!
and make sure you get a pen drive, they are essential these days for work/school/uni and fixing problems.

I've actually got loads at the office, but alas, I am at home :)

Yeah SSD is sick :D

Reboots used to be a chore in the past, now it's like /whatever, spend more time initialising the BIOS than booting Windows 7.

I know, whilst I'm waiting for stuff to copy on my old machine, I've been rebooting and timing it, haha. It's so quick!!!

New machine is damn loud though!!!

What board is it?

I've got my Noctuas on the motherboard fan headers and am using the ASUS AI Suite to run them at low RPM and only ramp them up to set % duty based on temp thresholds. A rather nice bit of software to be honest. ASUS restricted obviously though :p

Edit - In-fact it looks like you are running a P8P67 board form the photo anyway, go get it! Even if you do not use it for fan stuff the data logging from sensors is invaluable for overclocking, particularly recording VCORE over time (To see how Turbo Boost and Auto voltages ramps it up) and setting an alarm - 1.35V in my case.
