First of, hello everyone this is my first post :D how you all doing?

id just like your thoughts on this idea i have for a build, this will be my first time making a computer, ive decided that is what i want to do because im fed up of ready made PC's and there Spec's not being what i want (plus i think it will be exciting to tinker about making my own) :D

Basically this is more on overall Question about my build but it is mainly due to the fact that i am unsure what graphics cards are half decent for their cost.

these are primary components im going to be using in my build;

Case: Coolermaster HAF X
Mobo: ASUS Rampage III Extreme
CPU: Intel i5 2500k
RAM: Ripjaws DDR3 1600MHz 12GB (3x4GB)
CPU Cooling: Enermax ETS-T40

So, with these components in mind, i would like to use the ASUS Geforce 570 GTX 1.25GHz GPU in my build, what i want to do is use two of them in a duel SLI configuration, i would like to do some overclocking and i will be using this mainly for high Graphics and Performance Gaming, and my questions are;

will this be suffient? :confused:
what power source will i need to use in order to maintain this build?
any other suggestions?

:)

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Your processor and motherboard aren't compatible.

You need a S1366 chip with the ASUS Rampage III Extreme and triple channel RAM or you need a P67 or Z68 motherboard with an i5 2500K and dual channel RAM.

Where do you get "ASUS Geforce 570 GTX DirectCUII 1.25GHz" from? They run at 742MHz.

I suggest the Thermalright Silver Arrow as a CPU cooler along with low profile RAM.

so i could use a Maximus III extreme instead of a Rampage III exteme and then it would work with the i5 2500k?
and yeah i did mean 1.25GB lol sorry

make sure that the motherboard is a socket 1155, because that is sandybridge. no other sockets will work.

No because that's a Socket 1156 motherboard and the i5 2500K is Socket 1155.

It's only one pin but it makes all the difference.

You want a P67 motherboard from here or a Z68 motherboard from here.

If you're unsure state how much you want to spend and we'll point you in the right direction.

Might I make a suggestion?

Why don't you start a "spec. me" thread in General Hardware.

Set out how much you have to spend, what you want to use the PC for and if you require just a base unit or things like operating system, monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers etc.

You'll get a much higher level of response by doing that.

ok its that i was looking at the Maximus Specs on the ASUS site and it said its compatible with i3, i5 and i7 CPUs. is the i5 2500k different form other i5's?

also thanks for the links ill be sure to have a look :)

hey that sounds like a pretty good idea, this maximus IV Exteme mobo is looking pretty good to me, but i still wondered if i could use that spec.me thing to look for other parts, I.E mouse keyboard, speakers like you said?

because right now i just want to get the main components for my base unit
(im going to buy a piece every week or so) so when i get round to external inputs and such will i be able to do that if i just say what i currently have?

You can ask for anything you want.

If you just need the base unit now then "Spec. me a £1,000 Sandy Bridge gaming base unit" or whatever.

In the future you can ask for a monitor, a mouse, a keyboard etc.
