The Wire from season one!

Season 1 down.

Few questions:
1) Did anything happen as a result of Herc and the other black officer stealing that money, when they put it under their vests? Seemed like an odd thing to put in, but I guess that's the kind of officers they are.
2) Did Herc get the promotion in the end then? He was telling other officers how things are run at trhe end of the episode.

No spoilers past season 1 please!

I've got this but never watched it. Can anyone give me a brief plot without giving too much away. What is it about?

It mainly centres around how the Baltimore police tackle the city's drug trade, and the neighbourhoods affected by it.

There are other themes too, like, working class/politics/eduction/journalism.

It's truly a fascinating show, the level of authenticity is amazing compared to other shows. The characters, actors, plots and situation are excellent.

The creator (David Simon) worked as a journalist in Baltimore and so had first hand experience of the city along with Ed Burns who worked as a detective in Baltimore PD.

Just finished watching The Wire, hands down best tv series I've ever seen.

Now I'm going to go buy the boxset so I can watch this in the future again one day :D

Everyone seems to think this show is great but it doesn't look like something i would normally watch, im willing to give it a go but am a bit put off by the non widescreen format, should i watch stretched or normal when i get around to it?

Normal.

And it's the best TV series I've ever watched.

So I finally got around to watching it...wow, completed all 5 seasons in a matter of weeks. It really is unbelievably good. Far far better than anything I've ever watched before. Love the in depth character development. For anyone who's not seen it yet...make time for it, you won't regret it!

I was the same..... didn't seem my thing... tried series 1... wasn't sure...

Skipped to series 2 as my g/f was watching it.... and got hooked more than I have on a series for years.

Watch it square, as it was intended... its draws you in... scratch below the surface and you get hooked!

I have seen pretty much all of them, got bored mid way through S5 and its definitely an ace show but its overrated!

I watched the first episode last night and found it pretty good! Between what has been said here, on Amazon and the front cover with "Listen Carefully" I thought I'd need a a pen, paper and notebook to understand it! Anyways found it easy to understand and enjoy (perhaps because I was so prepared for it to be complicated). Going to watch episode 2 now. It's a shame about the UK fault on the dvd's the aspect ratio and white lines are annoying but I'm told its only season one that has this problem.

My wife and I watched the last episode ever last night. We're gutted it's over. What an amazing show! :)

I knew it would be McNulty on the pool table at the end. Fantastic. The only loose end that wasn't tied up for me was what McNulty did for work. You could see what happened to everyone else. At least he had the good sense to stay with Beatrice.
