Using guitar pro 5 software on a pc at to moment, but not able to put my guitar in to it.

What sound card is good enough to allow the guitar recording and to give me great sound when i play it back. I presume as well i will be using MIDI for this too.

If any one has done this, is it easy enough to set up the recording and hardware or is there a lot of messing about to get the guitar and PC to 'sync' together?

For a PC not a mac.

I don't think think you can record guitar with Guitar Pro 5. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If you want to get a good sound you want to use a good mic to place in front of the amplifier. You can connect a guitar into your sound card by the right cable but it doesn't sound good.

Not too sure what sound card to use, hopefully someone can help you out.

you can't record guitar into guitar pro 5 i'm afraid. For this you will need a sequencer/DAW package (such as Cubase or Pro Tools)

On the Hardware side you will want to get an audio interface and a good mic, then you place the mic in front of the guitar cab and just record direct into your daw. For a starting package of bits I would recommend:

Software:

http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/cubase/cubase_elements_6.html

Interface:

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrackPro.html

Mic:

You will then need a mic stand and cable :)

Using the above combo you will be able to record in very high quality, however it does come at a price.

Assuming you are meaning electric you could always go down this route which allows you to input straight from the standard jack into a usb port with different emulated guitar amps done on the software side.

Looks like a cheap and cheerful option but cant really comment on quilaty but you could always hunt a few reviews

Seems to be for sale <£30 too which seems pretty much like a bargain

If you have an amp with a headphone socket, you should be able to connect this to the sound card surely?

(and dont call me shirley)

go for the microphone option, or the adapter previously shown if you are on a tight budget :)

what your looking for is a usb interface. I myself use guitar rig usb interface which has a mic with phantom power and two 1/4 jack inputs.

Line 6 would be the best option to go for. the line 6 pod gx would be great if your only using it for one guitar as it dosent have a mic input. If your looking for something higher end get the Line 6 UX1.

+1

Line 6 gear is top notch. I've got the Pod and it connects to the comp very easily, and the amp models are very good. UX1 is a good recording interface with the software tools to let you adjust the sound.
