Did you go and correct him?

Would have been worth a laugh if you had a few minutes to kill ;)

"It's called what?"

"Thermally insulating material sir."

"Oh, and that's because it's a good insulator is it?"

"That's right sir."

"Soooooooo.... Why would you want to put that between your cpu and heatsink?..."

** confusion and embarressed silence **

** lol and run away :D **

Perhaps i'm just cruel though?

would have trolled him to be honest and said really i dont normally use any i just stick a heatsink on but thanks

Did you go and correct him?

Honestly, no. A long time ago i just might have but these days i pick my battles and i'm a better judge of people, this guy looked like he'd have argued it to the death that he was right, just not up for that on a Sunday morning :D

Back in the day I had a 20 minute argument with a manager at a map shop who refused to believe it was possible to have an s-video to composite adapter. I don't think he was impressed with the staff member who not only disagreed with him, but went and got one in about 30 seconds.

Not only did he get the acronym wrong, 'TIM' refers to any kind of thermal interface, which could be grease/paste/phase change/mica/graphite/silicone pad etc. He couldn't have been more wrong if he'd have been wearing a purple shirt.

Shame really, the particular company in question used to be staffed by proper enthusiasts and sold properly interesting stuff. Now they are just another box shifter for triple-C branded items.
