Read this story yesterday on the front of one of the Sunday rags, could only find it on Daily Fail's website though:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2020801/Britains-youngest-grandparents-Shem-Davies-granddad-29-Kelly-John-granny-30.html

Basically this guy who had his own daughter, Tia, at 15, now has a granddaughter, Gracie, after Tia had a baby at 14.

The granddad has such a babyface that the hospital staff ID'd him to make sure he was over 16 before they'd let him onto the ward!

I know that young mums can, and do, do a brilliant job - my best friend had her son unexpectedly at 17, still finished her A-Levels, went to uni, is now a teacher and got married this week. She's a real success story.

But I can't help but feel sorry for both the baby and her mum - I get the feeling they're just trapped in a cycle of teen pregnancy and life on benefits. I hope Tia does a better job of teaching Gracie about protecting herself than her parents obviously did on her, and I hope she has the support of all her family, as I think she's going to need it.

Quote of the day from baby Gracie's dad, Jordan (15):

Jordan, who sat his final GCSE just weeks before Gracie arrived, said he understands responsibility. "I'm captain of the school rugby team and that's like having 14 kids."

Any thoughts?

Why would the nurses ID someone going onto a ward, especially if they thought he was the father? That's very odd.

I don't actually think it's a bad quote at all. But, we need to address this situation however I'm not sure it's possible to fix the issue of young mothers bringing children into the World. Sex education can only do so much, but kids will be kids and ignore all of that advice to get their tip wet.

At first I wasn't overly pleased that she was pregnant but I soon got over than.

As soon as she realised she could get benefits. By the way that is a typo in the article but i'll let the Mail correct that.

Daughter is 14, does that mean she was 13 when she was getting it?

There's nothing particularly wrong about that (bar any legality issues, but that's a different debate). Providing that someone knows the implications, and understands sex, what it is, the dangers behind it and practice it in a safe and mature way then I don't see much of an issue with consenting 13 year old's having sex.

Well, they weren't safe, or mature about it, she's just had a kid hasn't she? :p, one she can't support herself, she can't support herself by herself.
The article itself is hard to follow correctly, in some sections it doesn't make sense lol.

Yeah, I know. These people demonstrated how to do it wrongly. I perceived from your original comment that you thought it was wrong that 13 year olds were having sex full stop.
