Hi all,

I'm a few days away from buying my new system & I'd appreciate your assistance in finalising my choices.

I don't need a gfx card - I will use my HD 5850 extreme until the next gen of cards appears. Top of my budget is £800 & my priority is for a quiet gaming PC with excellent air cooling.

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K OEM - only question here is whether to get a retail chip for the extra 2 years warranty

MOBO:
P67 - MSI P67A-GD53
Z68 - unsure as I don't need the features but I like the idea of having a G3 board

CASE:
Silverstone Fortress FT02B-W v1.7
Corsair Obsidian 6500D
Corsair Graphite 600T LE
Fractal Define R3

PSU: XFX 750W Black Edition Modular - overkill I know but I want a quality modular PSU preferably Seasonic

RAM: The best 1600mhz 8GB kit on offer when I buy I guess

COOLER: Antec Kúhler H2O 620

STORAGE:
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB
OCZ Agility 3 60GB

(and a DVD RW)

Cheers :D

Get a retail chip. warranty is important

COOLER: Antec Kúhler H2O 620 Get a thermaltake siler arrow. much better

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB
OCZ Agility 3 60GB

The green asterix highlights my choice ;)

As for the memory, Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB is the best choice, MY-094-KS.
It's usually on offer, even when it's not it's still great for the price. The best memory I've used.

Have a look at this thread. the H60 and khuler are similar.

And pay attention specifically to THIS post

Thanks I'll have a look at the air-coolers, for some reason I've just been fixating on the liquid solutions.

Sound's good thanks:)

I don't understand the title for this thread

Intel.. blue... AMD.. red? just thought it would make a change from "check my build please":D

Some of the most popular and efficient air coolers today are HUGE, and can prevent use of the first memory slot on your motherboard.

An alternative to losing that first memory slot is to use low profile memory such as the Corsair Vengeance Low Profile.

There is a good chance that the next generation of graphics cards will use PCIe 3.0

The new Asrock Extreme4 Gen3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard should be available on OCUK within the next couple of days.

iirc only ivy bridge cpu can utilise/use the PCIe 3.0 on the mobo/gpu
since your opting for i5 2500k now, i dont think its worth it to buy/upgrad to ivy bridge just to make use of Gen3/PCIe 3

Which is why he suggested the Vengeance RAM with low profile heatsinks and not the normal stuff.

Which is why I said, the Kingston RAM I suggested is normal size, not "you need to get the Kingston not low profile Vengeance" - I am aware that the low profile Vengeance is not, hm, high profile Vengeance, or whatever we should call it heh.
I suppose it would have been clearer if I'd said "The Kingston RAM I suggested is also the same size as the "low profile" Vengeance, and will fit under most larger air coolers fine too". The Kingston is better quality than the Vengeance, hence my suggestion.

So you are saying Kingston>Corsair quality wise?

I'm saying that the Kingston HyperX Genesis and Blu memory is the most reliable memory I've had experience with, more so than Corsair, G.SKill, Geil, etc. I'm not saying Corsair is bad memory, I do like their memory and it is good, just that (at least right now) the Kingston is better.

Give up, man. Resistance is futile. You aint never gonna get the last word, no matter how right you are.

BTW, got the HyperX today. Will report how they fare, but not really concerned :) And they are bloody heavy. What do they use for the heat spreader, lead?

My aim isn't to get the last word, just answering a genuine question with a genuine answer.
Enjoy your Kingston, very unlikely you'll need to worry about any faults with it ;) it's certainly made my life much easier now we use it so much in our systems.
I agree, the heat spreaders are heavier than other memory like XMS3 or Ripjaws, gives a good solid feel. Much better than the plastic Vengeance heatspreaders.
