Lets say im getting a new 2500k build in two months (or bulldozer, depending on how that goes..) would it be worth it to buy a second hand 9600gt for £50 and wait for the new cards in november? I definately want one for BF3 release, and guild wars 2 but nothings been said on that recently.

EDIT: What I kind-of meant was are there any cards for £50 that could match a 9600gt?

Maybe try getting something like a used 6870, 6950, or 460 from members market, as these cards will perform well yet should still hold most their value when you move to a more permanent solution.

I honestly cant see it being the 7xxx series. I would guess at some kind of 6xxx refreash at best.

AMD don't really seem to have a pattern, I think the 6800's were released before the 6900's because they were waiting on components for the 6900's...

The HD 5850 & 5870 were released before the 5830 and 57xx cards.

The only higher range card which came after was the dual GPU HD 5970.

well i bought my first ati card way back when. when i got it, it came with a coupon card to get half-life 2 free now im talking back when steam was just launched and few months later half life 2 was released. but got to say it was good deal as once i had enter my code in to steam it was locked few week later value was giving away free the complete value package at the time for those who had pre-order HL2, so because i had enter my coupon code i got the complete value package for free so that was all the half life one games, half life: source , team fortress 2, counterstrike,deleted scenes, cs:S etc. it nothing new of value having deal with amd as it been going on for year. take their latest one with selected amd products get dirt 3 free.

Think the hardware may have something to do with this previously mentioned quote,

He's simply saying its their first game, not just that the AMD card in question is capable of it.

ITs an AMD backed game, so he's hyping up AMD features but his main point is he's excited to be making a game that natively supports 3D. Nothing more or less, doesn't give the slightest clue as to what might be coming out.

3d kits won't involve any new 3d technology, if AMD were interested in making expensive 3d kits they'd likely have done so already, their stance seems pretty firmly in the, there will be software, you buy whatever YOU want and whatever will work, and everyones happy.

The original post certain hints at a new card, and at this stage I'd find it highly unlikely AMD would release a new 40nm card. That doesn't necessarily mean top end card, but certainly hints at a 28nm AMD card, and given the timing and people expecting to see cards in sept-Oct timeframe it would line up.

Yup, 6870 was timing really, possibly components delaying the 6900, but it was basically a massively bigger change than the 6870, I'm a bit surprised they came out so close to each other.

Theres no pattern, they usually don't, on 40nm they released a 4770 but I' not sure how much was "we have to test this process" and how much was just, "this process is ready 3-4 months after the 4870, and we're no where near done on the 5870". Remember the 2900xt to 3870 to 4870 were ridiculously close to each other, across 3 separate processes(80-65-55) in just over a year.

The 4770 just worked out rather than was planned brilliantly to test the process. This time around 28nm is simply ready for the intended target date so it likely will work out quite nicely for them.

AS said, people are talking about processes, the 4770 came out in pretty damn small quantities and is often atributed to AMD's better understanding of the 40nm process than Nvidia. I'm not sure thats true as other companies also managed to deal with 40nm a lot better than Nvidia, but it almost certainly wouldn't have hurt.

Thats what people are refering to, the 4770 first on a new process, old architecture, new process, testing the waters, then the 5870/50, new architecture on a process they've had practice on.

****, I don't know to wait or go for my original choice of a 570/580. a lot if gamers are readying up there rigs for bf3. Wish ati/amd would get some realistic release dates out!
