STEAM DEAL - Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines - £3.74

I bought this game and had a quick go last night after getting it working on W7.

3 hours later!!! epic game, very very different to anything else I have played, I don't know about anyone else but I laughed my ass off when I went in the Asylum for the first time, I thought they motion captured my dance moves!!

Go to \Steam\steamapps\common\vampire the masquerade - bloodlines, right click on the vampires.exe and set it to run in Windows XP service pack 3 compatibility mode.

Install this unofficial patch: http://www.gamefront.com/files/service/thankyou?id=20563891

Next, go to http://www.fileplanet.com/156598/15...e-Masquerade:-Bloodlines---Resolution-Patcher and download the resolution patcher.

Follow these instructions:

0. VTMB cannot run at the time of patching.
1. Copy VTMBResPatcher.exe into the folder with "engine.dll".
2. start VTMBResPatcher.exe
3. change the values like you want them to be like or use one of the default sets of resolutions.
4. click "Patch It".

Start the game.

Press Esc 4 times to skip the intro movies, they don't seem to play for me I get a black screen.

Go to settings, choose the 1080p resolution.

Restart the game.

Enjoy!

just tried that to the letter on Win 7 64 bit. I get "Failed to find steam" before and after i install the patch. :(

*Edit* Closing steam then running it as Administrator fixes it. :)

When you install the patch you have to select the folder in which VTMBL is installed otherwise it tries to install it to C:\program files\Vampire - Bloodlines

After reading this I dug out my old CD version and started playing again. Never really gave it much of a go first time around because it was so buggy on release. Just finished the mission in the old haunted hotel. That part is really freaky, especially with headphones. The weird voices and sounds were beginning to freak me out.

The light bulb at the start made me jump loads haha :D

Any ideas on how to fix a "Failed to find Steam" error message?
I applied the unoffical patch and resolution patch, but it won't start. :(

edit: I went to verify the games integrity etc and there's over 200 files that need to be reacquired :O.

I've also read that it could be the UAC. I'll report back if it's fixed, incase others are having the same problem.

EDIT2: Nothing :(

Devious posted the solution to this further up in this thread :)

Set Steam to run as admin.

Do you guys play/prefer 1st or 3rd person perspective?

In this game?

It depends on the situation. If I am sneaking I will change to 3rd person. If I'm shooting I will change to 1st.

Been playing it through as a Nosferatu this time, named it after my ex-gf :p

I played through this a few times before (I have the old CD version). LOVED IT.

May dig it out and play again - I've never tried the Nosferatu either, may have to give it a go.

I'm usually a smoothie that can talk through anything lol.

I was thinking about buying this before it came on the steam sale but the price tag was a bit high for a game i may not like. I completed the game yesterday(after playing it non-stop all weekend) and I have to say i was very impressed with it. I might even start another run through today with a gun orientated class.

Meow! :D

Yeah I do that with the 1st/3rd person views. I find melee works far better in 3rd, so you can see where your attackers are better.

Am i right in thinking the Nosferatu cannot be seen by mortals, else you get a Masquerade violation? Not tried as a 'nosser, does that make it hard to move around the map or do you just need to go everywhere via sewers?

Well, I haven't played very much of it, done the mission on the beach so far and that is all.

If a human sees you they run away screaming you don't get a violation immediately, I guess if you stand there for too long you will get one though, I just turned and ran off in the opposite direction and straight into the sewers.
