I decided to build a new rig in January for the release of duke nukem forever! lol! yes a bit dissapointing, i went for krypton black ops bundle core i7 , sabertooth x58, 6 gig ram, overckocked to 4.2 GHz, corsair HX850, Antec 902 case , GTX 590 and a Dell U2711. My pc is mainly for gaming ( fps) crysis2 looks awsome in dx11, the problem is even though i love the dell the thought of three screens blows me away!! but every time i look into it there seems to be mixed reviews about graphic cards being able to run fast enough ( custom pc september ) what im asking is , is it worth splashing out on 3 screens possibly another gtx590 ( how the hell do you keep two 590 cool !) ??

( how the hell do you keep two 590 cool !) ??

You dont, you use one, unless you really are mad?:D

And the PSU isnt up for a pair of them.

Two GTX580's in SLI are faster than a single GTX590 and you have the PSU to do this.

If you are building a new rig in january, then surely it is best to wait for the 28nm cards. or did you mean you decided in january to build a new rig?

To keep 590 SLI cool, you probably need liquid cooling.

If possible, have a look at some 3 screen setups, then have a look at the Dell screen. My personal choice would be one of THESE

Built last January! But why are custom pc saying in there tests that 2 x gtx 590 or 2x 6990 could`nt run Bad company 2 because of horrific micro stuttering, they tried 2x gtx 580 the same thing. They even say a single gtx 590 runs better in 3 screen gaming than 2 sli !!:(

Theres a lot of things to take into account,

Driver support.

Game scaling with multiple graphic cards, some games just work better on the one core, the game engine isnt optimized for multiple cards.

Resolution tested at?

Here for instance - http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-590-sli-review/7 - the SLI GTX590 is no better than one card.

Bad company2 , 3x 23 in 1080p monitors , 2 x Sli Gtx 590 `a minimum frame rate of 0fps, dispite the very high average frame rate of 63 fps`

Unless your thinking about upgrading your PSU to a 1kw+ monster then just ignore SLI GTX590

The dell is an ips panel, used mainly for colour accurate design work, they have a low refresh rate and arent that great for gamers imo

It was the refresh rate comment, its still 60hz like all other displays that are not 120hz is it not?

Unless thats what you meant and just didnt word it as such? 120hz is smoother than 60hz etc?

I don't notice it whilst playing mmo's but there is some ghosting on fps games Though the primary use for my setup is graphics work

I'd take the 30" Dell anyway, regardless of response time. The benefits outside of gaming by having such a large real estate negates any problems in gaming IMO.

However, CRT > All if you want absolutely no response time, great viewing angles and colour reproduction.
