How much are poeple charging for a small biz to give them a bit of phone support and maybe some remote access support?

as in a monthly retainer that lets them call you and you give them support.

do you do it on a £X per computer basis?

I was thinking about £10 per PC per month?

obviously the contract will limit the number of calls to some figure (not that I would enforce it but jsut to be safe) and as someone already suggested state "reasonable endeavours", I was also going to offer £20 an hour after the £40 call out as I so rarely bill more than 1 hour anyway

IMHO working in IT support,

£10 per month per PC isn't enough. Never do a scheme like that. As you could spend hours/days at 1 persons house sorting there pc.

Charge per the hour support unless your a big company doing support for a group of pcs.

time at a house would be a callout not included in the monthly contract,

if a company had 3 PC's I would charge them £30 a month to be able to call me and ask for support if required I would remote in if it went past "reasonable endeavours" I would simply say I had to come in and fix it (and charge them)

currently they get this service for nothing (well the phone support and remote access)

If you're going to limit the number of calls, ENFORCE IT - otherwise why bother?

What kind of company is it? What would be the remit of support? I would say an absolute minimum of £30 per pc per month.

Again, Its not cost effective from your PoV, you could be geting calls every 5minutes about problems - depends on the users tech ability - even with a limit it can be too much.

It would be worth it, if you was a big company offering this. But as a single user - 100% not worth it. My mate did it and ended up ending his contracts as he wasn't making any money compared to the amount of time he was spending.

I'd recommend while its only 1 employee, charging per call.

15 companies from 2 to 10 staff doing general office stuff.

remit would be to resolve any IT issues with remote access if required, if its taking too long I simply say I'll have to come in and fix that (and they have to pay for a callout)

moan yay o/

The problem is that the likes of BT have gone from a phone company to a IT company. BT uses their government monopoly to distort the IT support market. Now they are offering support at £11 per pc and server support for £55 per month. They apparently have 1000s of engineers. This seriously annoys me, but what can you do.

Just look at the competition (if we can call it that) and try to offer a price that is similar or offer that bit more, more personal for example, then charge a bit more.

I reckon £20 to £40 per hour regardless of number of pc's. You can then tell them if it takes less than 10-15 mins you wont charge but remember to log the number of hours and what you did during the time.
