Benefits of gaming on the PC in comparison to Consoles.

1) Mods
2) Faster loading
3) More control options
4) Cheaper games
5) Alt-tab out to look at an faq if you get stuck
6) Variety of games (MMOs, Strategy etc)

Woot, didn't even have to mention graphics.

Well when I got into PC gaming consoles were still in relatively early days (PS1) so a PC could play games and much more. Of course consoles have moved on a lot to a point of being entertainment centres that can play your music, browse the web, etc.

I'd say only reason I don't have any consoles is that out of the exclusives available there's nothing out there to warrant me buying one not to mention that I feel useless with a pad in my hands when it comes to anything outside racing/sport genre. To summarise the things that appeal to me are:

Controls - mouse and keyboard
Modding - although unfortunately a lot of games seem to be cutting this out now
Ability to turn up graphical settings - depending on computer of course
Versatility - you can still do more on a computer than a console
Customisation - while I'm not as interested in tech stuff, there is still some satisfaction in building your own thing
Cheaper games - although shame that second hand market is dying
Certain exclusives, genres and simulators - PC is still home of RTS games like Total War series, ARMA, Black Shark, etc
Community - it does seem more mature particularly for certain games but still a fair share of idiots to be had but that's not a big point for me anyway

There are of course some disadvantages biggest one being the price, computers are not cheap especially when you start sticking high end stuff in them. I do miss certain games on it like the NHL series and occasional title like Red Dead Redemption. I really can't say I felt a great need to play my games on the sofa so that's a mute point for me as my chair is dead comfy!

After coming across this on the Console Gaming Forum I wanted to ask the PC gaming community what are the advantages to playing on a PC in comparison to a console (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii).

So I'm going to ask for a minimum of 6 reasons to why gaming on PC is better than gaming on a console.

I know that both have their advantages, I myself have an Xbox 360 (under the bed now) but I played it to death untill about January this year.

minimum of 6?

1. better graphics (MUCH better in some cases, not too much better in others, but I've yet to come across a game that looks better on consoles*)

2. Amazing mods available for each game (big + for me, adds loads of cool things and extends the life of games, no need to pay for DLC)

3. MUCH cheaper games (if you buy enough games and play them all, then the price difference v consoles can easily negate the extra expense of buying a pc rather than a console)

4. Mouse and keyboard for the win

5. Better online play, certainly can accommodate more players!

6. Generally games are a lot faster and smoother (can tone down graphics settings to ensure this, while still looking better than consoles!

*excludes any crappy ports :(

What I like:

Mouse and keyboard
Dedicated servers
Cheap games
Mods

What I don't:

Lack of decent exclusives. Most of my gaming is on consoles simply because the games I want don't appear on the PC.
The complete lack of decent twitch based shooters!

Are you trying to tell me you don't like any of these games http://www.pcgamingfan.com/????
Console exclusives pail at the number of PC exclusives (Although a lot of them may not interest some people there are quite a few that many many people should be interested in.)

1) Less 12 year olds in your multiplayer games
2) You won't look like a ham-fisted retard trying to play an FPS with a controller, and needing auto-aim to hit anything
3) You save money as you don't have to pay a subscription to play online (unless you're playing an MMO), you also pay less for your games
4) Better resolutions, better graphics quality, better performance
5) Microsoft can't shut down your PC because they think you might be pirating games
6) You won't lose online play because Sony annoyed a bunch of hacktivists.

I haven't had a console since the PSX and develop stuff on the PC so I'm going to be biased anyway.

However, it would be interesting to see the responses if this question could have been asked 20 years ago during the release on the Mega Drive and the 486 being pretty much the best mainstream CPU available.

I take it you meant to say "Too many good games are console exclusive" because otherwise, damn... just, damn...

Oh and it may seem extreme just for that reason but if you ever get an iphone or ipod touch the lack of twitch shooters will just melt away. Till then there's Geometry Wars and Beat Hazard.

*shrugs*

The games I play aren't afflicted by what he said.

Other than the ridiculous "have to be online" EA games. But I don't play those any more.

Each to their own. A few games in that list interest me, not many of them are PC exclusive, and none nearly as much as Dark Souls, Last Guardian, Uncharted 3, Skyward Sword etc etc. The PC is certainly home to decent exclusives, but for someone who isn't rts and mmo crazy i.e me, it's lacking.

I play on all platforms, so I'm going to disagree with many posts in here.

How are those games meant to be played?

I played Killzone 3 with the Sharpshooter/Move, which was much more immersive than with a K&M. Like racing games are better with a wheel, I think FPS should be played with a gun.

this sounds like a horrible way to play fps! stick to consoles.

1) choice of hardware
2) better graphics
3)highers res
4)dedicated servers
5)cheaper games
6)better digital distribution service and a choice(not just psn or xbox store)
7)bigger indie scene
8)mouse + keyboard or controller
9) SIT IN A BIG COMFY CHAIR AND RELAX AFTER WORK ON A 60" TV WITH A CONTROLLER oh yeah consoles do that too :p

10)mods

jeez this just goes on and on. I have all formats but real gamers have pc's as there main platform

Funny thing is, the game will actually be rendered at 1080p (being the most common) instead of upscaled and just not looking as pretty as a 360/PS3. But it's the whole length of where you're sat debate that then comes into play.

I strongly disagree with your opinion on 4. In the hundreds of hours I've played CoD on PC (How much of my life have I wasted :() I can count the number of at least obvious hackers on one hand. The PS3 is riddled with hackers, at least on MW2 anyway.

Trust me. MW2 on the PC was completely infested with them last I checked. The PS3 is a particular issue with save hacking, but that's just one game. You can't seriously be trying to claim that hacking is more rife on consoles than PC across the board?

agreed, hacking on pc is worse but I dont come across it all that often which is decent
